We are "suffering" our hottest summer on record with temps in the mid 30s celsius.

Everyday riding (except after 9pm) is melting me in my old leathers.

Any recommendations for kit that allows reasonable comfort but still offers the protection when the temperature hits 100?

you heard of Dry Rider cordura jackets?, i have one that is three seasons, cold, hot and bloody hot, you can wear it as a flow through tight 'mesh' jacket, has all the right armour, and sell for 300AUD , which includes a camel back drink bladder!!!, i also have a set of leather palmed, carbon armoured gloves, that have the top surface in the same abrastion reistant, air flow mesh, boots, and a pair of 'dragon' jeans, they have kevlar sewn into all the impact points..... plus when you stop, dowse yourself with water..... peace

My mates on the VFR site recommended the Hein Gerike Mesh Tex which sounds just like that. Mesh with all the right armour. Tried one and bought it on the spot! (£110)

The gloves sound like the next step.

I wear Draggin jeans ~~because they are Aussie~~ and they are great - I can wear them to work as they look like black jeans and they have all that kevlar lining (+ pockets for armour but I must admit I don't wear that...)

Draggin' jeans & a u-beaut open weave mesh jacket that feels like riding in a t shirt except that it has armour, back protector etc & is very abrasion resistant.

Those kind of temps are extraordinarily rare here. I think I would pass on riding and stay home in the A/C with a cold beer.

I feel for you folks as well as those here on the west coast recently. Hope the heat wave breaks for you soon.

I've got a Bates Fast Lane Canvas Jacket that I really like. It has really big vents in the front, back and arms & the usual armour. I have some very light duty vented gloves that I always wear when it's warm.

Going to work I'll wear jeans but other than that I actually still wear leather pants & work boots.

Helmet choice depends on the bike I'm riding and where I'm going. I'm trying to wear my full face more but for shorter low speed trips the open face is still a favorite.

Nexgen armored mesh jacket. Unless it looks like rain; like today, then I tough it out with my Firstgear armored textile because I think it will slide a bit better.

And I always use my Joe Rocket armored & vented gloves. Nice in the heat, but they're kinda cool when it's cold out; regardless, they're the only real gloves I have.

I admit it, I'm really stupid (but really careful..I know, that doesn't go too far)....A riding buddy is always on me for wearing a T-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes..I am, however starting to wise up, especially after seeing the horrible accident (Crotch Rocket, Accidental? sounds intentional to me!) pictures that were posted a few weeks ago...my question regards stuff we have to wear.
I have a black HJC 3/4 helmet, and a few years ago, I got so overheated that I had to go inside and sit for 3 hrs. with a bag of ice on my head! Why is so much bike stuff black, and how do we stay cool?
I also get concerned about my bike. I've found melted ashfault on the block, and when it get really hot, the gears sound like metal n metal. I switched this year to Synth oil, and it's much quieter now though.

We're having an unusually hot summer too (up to 41c). I wear all my usual gear, whatever the temp, but if it gets really bad:

fill up your synthetic jacket pockets with ice (remembering to put your wallet and documents somewhere else....don't ask!)

wrap a soaked micro fibre towel around your neck and refresh it every time you stop for gas

....it's better to sweat than bleed!!

I didn't see the uS as one of the places listed as a stock site from the Aussie's.
Is the uS "draggin jeans" and such a completely different animal?

They are Aussie products but MUST have a US distribution network!

There are probably local (US) versions as well. We have Hood in UK who claim (of course) to be superior...

Sorry Steve, I've been curled up under the doona dreaming of the sorts of temps that my pommy cousins are currently enjoying,(?) while I'm freezing my arse off here in frozen Oz, it was only 16 degrees C (61 deg F) here today and I didn't want get out of bed! Eventually my boss came into my office and told me to get out of bed, and also to stop bringing my bed to work.......

Anyway, as dangerous as they no doubt are after reading all the previous posts, I still like to ride in a T shirt and jeans, with my open face helmet and light summer gloves and boots. I know, I know, not very pc, but part of my enjoyment of motorcycle ownership these last 37 years has been riding around unencumbered by all that crap. I'm sure that Karma will see to it that I pay dearly for this affront to common sense, but there you go. Anyone got a size XXXXL Corona singlet for sale, cheap? Cheers, Terry.
