Cr specials for a 750. What's a good price?
« on: May 12, 2013, 11:10:34 AM »
My friend want to trade me his cr specials for a stock set of carbs plus some cash. Anyone have thoughts on how much those carbs are worth used?

Win some lose some, it's all the same to me.

I'm assuming CR is for a Rickman? If that's the case, Rickman frames came with everything but an engine. You had to supply your own engine whether it be Honda 750, Kawasaki 900 or Triumph 650-750. So if that's the case there's no such thing as CR specials. They may have come off a Rickman, but they could be anything.
Please correct me if I'm wrong fellas.  ;)

I thought I'd stepped out of the Tardis into another dimension there for a minute Frosty, wow........... ;D

Back on subject, if they're the new CR's they retail new for around $700.00 per set, plus filters. I had the 29mm specials on my K1 Cafe Racer and they were a PITA to set up, and I never really got it right, but they did give me a good 10 MPH at max RPM over the stockers, and a heap more accelleration from around 7000 RPM when the Megacycle 125/75 cam came into it's own.

I've got another set of new 31mm CR's to go on the bike when I rebuild the engine, they are definitely worthwhile on a bike with high comp pistons, headwork and big cam, but a waste of money for an otherwise stock bike, and could well make it less enjoyable to ride.

Then again, if they're a set of ancient CR race carbs (no choke circuits) like Micks, get them, and you can sell them and buy a new supercharger for your 750......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I got my CR 29's tuned on the Dyno and my CB750 F3 with Wiseco 836 pistons and Web 41 runs pretty damn good , but..... Cold starting them with the start circuit friggin sucks. Especially on a cold damp day. Pretty common here in the Pacific Northwest.

With that said if they are in good shape I think $500 is a fair price.
