What's the difference between 74-76 550k and 77-78 550K
« on: June 04, 2013, 11:01:37 AM »
There seem to be no carb rebuild kits for the 78 550K, is there a great difference between these and the 74-76 550s?

thanks for any responses and best regards to all...

The short answer is yes, there are quite large differences between those years. 1977 and 1978 went to PD carburetors. I wish I knew all the facts for you but I just don't (yet), and I definitely don't want to go spouting off with bad info. Someone more knowledgeable will hopefully chime in to help you, but in the meantime your best bet would be to use the site's search function for more detailed information on those type of carbs.

You can also go to the following link for a nice summary on the changes made to the 550 each year.

Need a better, newer points cover gasket? How about rubber washers for the headlight bucket? Click the link below:

I rebuilt my carbs and had no issue getting gaskets.

Twisted, did you have to source everything individually? I haven't needed a rebuild on the carbs yet, but I am thinking that maybe a "kit" doesn't exist (?) and the parts do...

If I remember correctly, I ordered all the o-rings and gaskets from Honda, then all the jets from s.c.i. The rest was all about cleaning really. I also replaced those felt gaskets with snug fitting rubber o-rings that I got in an assortment.
