I sure know how to screw things up!
« on: June 16, 2013, 09:42:29 PM »
In the process of rebuilding my carbs, I managed to break the piece pictured below.  :'( Can this be replaced on its own, or would it require me purchasing a whole throttle plate assembly?

Thanks,

Matt

If it were me, I'd get a really fine drill bit, and make a hole through the part, and the arm . Then, i'd take a somewhat bigger drill bit, and make a 'sink', or shallow hole in the ball , to act as countersink. Then find a long, thin sheet metal screw and thread it in.the spring tension is on the shaft, so it shouldn't need a ton of strength to get the job done.

Thanks Phil. That's probably going to be my best option. I considered having it welded, but I don't know if that would work.

honestly if it were me i'd get it welded.  the caps that fit on those balls aren't that big, so there's room for a moderately sloppy weld.  also will be far cheaper and/or easier than finding just that piece (unless someone here has one laying around).

If you have a small vise, you can drill it. Seeing as how you have nothing to lose at this point, I think you could drill BOTH the intact one, and the broken one, and just pin the whole deal like a broken bone.

I rather prefer this route, if you can't find another used one.
Isn't that arm aluminum and the part steel, stainless I think.  You aren't going to weld that in place, due to the different melting temps.

Yeah, it can be fixed, but replacement is a better option, imo.

Thanks for the advice gentlemen, I sent a message to harisuluv. Hopefully he has a replacement. I would feel much better with a new one.
