Check the rack on that babe

I bought this rack right after I bought my 550 back in 1974. I wanted a larger sized rack for a 3 week 5000 mile ride all over the country, eventually taking me from L.A. to New York via a very circuitous route. Piled stuff incredibly high. The chrome has held up nicely, so I just put it back on the bike for the Godzilla relay. I'm able to load a lot of stuff without sacrificing seating position flexibility, so I'm able to move around a lot during longer rides. Old school, but still functional.

Hey Coach. Checked out some of the pics of the relay ride, looks like it was a good time. How did the 550 run and how many miles did you cover?

When I bought my 750K6 in 09 in came with a rack that looks just about identical to yours. Didn't need it on the bike so took it off, but still have it hanging on the wall in the garage and sill looks about new.
Wanted to keep because you never know when you might need a good rack ::)

I had one like that on my 550. I had a removable backrest too, which was very handy since I used it to attach a large backrest pack. It provided great storage and gave me somerhing to lean on during the ride.

Sucked some of you guys right in.....lol.   dhall, definitely the exact same rack you have there on your wall. Hang on to it for sure. The relay ride was GREAT. I did just about 430 miles out and back combined. The bike ran beautifully.....had to kick it started all weekend tho because my starter button literally disintegrated the week before. I found a partially cannibalized replacement switch and my plan is to transplant the button assembly from the donor to my housing. I'm about 4000 miles into my post restoration now. Hope the old girl has about 50K more in her.
