Mounting Tires CB500 - Michigan
« on: June 25, 2013, 11:33:41 AM »
Getting some new tires from American Motorcycle Tire - Continentals

I called around and I'm hearing nobody wants to mount them (unless bought there) - that was news to me.

I changed tires in the 70's and it wasn't a huge deal - are todays' tires any different ?  Should I be able to mount them myself ?

Thanks

Usually getting the old ones off is harder than putting the new ones on.I do all mine, but with a good set of tire irons, makes the job so much better.Maybe an small independent shop out there can help you out or run a little add on CL for that job.Used to be a couple of tire slingers around here that did it pretty cheap.

1 old sofa cushion

1 rubber dead blow hammer

1 bucket soapy water.

They really are tougher to remove-- if the old tires are truly spent--deflate, pull out the inner tube and with great care cut them off the rims.

If you do take them somewhere do not be surprised to see some rust inside the rim.The tire slinger won't really care but I like to clean that off when the tire is off and address it. Don't like the idea of that crusty cancer chaffing on my tube.

Detroit Wheelz is the place in St. Clair Shores.  His name is Rich.  586-420-3689.  Had several tires mounted there.  Nice guy to deal with.
