I'm not gonna do a build thread but I'll post a pic here n there along the way.
Thought some might like a peak at the rear wheel now laced up with the chrome spokes, new DID rim and black wrinkle paint next to the mongrel front one to show how they were when I got the basket case in March. Front hub is being painted and will lace up in a day or two. The wheel looks way better in the flesh than in the pic. Bikes coming along. Working on my 4 into 2 exhaust, bought the Mac system, not much else to choose from, ditched the mufflers and bought a couple of Dunstall copy megas, nothing really like Dunstall but not too bad looking. Need to make up intermediate pipes from headers 2" to muffler 1 1/2" and get chromed. Also need to get some 3mm steel plate n make up the muffler mounts. Motor's in the frame and lookin good.

Well I finally rebuilt the gauges, I got new crimp rings, man if there's an easy way to do them I'd like to know, anyway I got em done in the end. Too much chrome is never enough? Inside I put green 90mm halo leds, when I get a battery I'll post a pic, bloody lovely.
Awesome routing of the brake line as well don't you reckon ::)

Beautiful work - keep it up! I expect you'll reroute that brake line. It was a bit eclectic for my taste plus there's opportunity for more chrome or at least silver braiding.

All done and rego-ed. A few pics to show how she ended up and a short audio clip of it running cold. This has the CX-1 cam, not sure if that's the reason for the rough idle, I have new coils on the way, pretty sure these old ones are iffy. Thanks for lookin. The audio clip is in stereo with a tad of reverb added, try listening with headphones. http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=12483676&q=hi

I just had a quick look around Braidwood on Google street view Nic. Nice looking place but 1200km away from me. Looks like an interesting ride down to Batemans Bay on the Kings H'wy.  ;)

Yes mate, great ride down the mountain but the cars >:(  Used to be good back in the day, it seems you can't go anywhere these days without massive car bastards. Oh and lest we forget the trucks.

Why did you switch the positions of the tach and the speedo?  Is your current orientation the correct one?

Hi Nic, looks good. What kind of pipes are they? They look a bit "Norton Commando-ish".
Thanks mate, the system consists of Mac headers  :-[ it's all I could find for 4 into 2, custom intermediate pipes made by a very clever dude, Raff at Fyshwick exhaust in Canberra ( see pic, before chrome ) and some mufflers off ebay.
The Mac headers end in a 2" pipe, this makes it a real drama to fit other mufflers to them.
I love the old Dunstall 4 in to 2 exhausts ( see my avatar for a genuine Dunstall exhaust ) and that's what I wanted here, I had to make up the two plates that the mufflers and rear pegs bolt onto outta 3mil steel plate then had them chromed, I fashioned the plates from a pic of the right side of the Dunstall ones ( see pic ) the left Dunstall one is much bigger to stop the center stand hitting the chain, I never liked the look of that one and I just bolted a short bracket on the inside of the frame triangle as a stand stay. I did start out with 3 Nortons, the reason I became a mechanic back then, if you owned a Norton you better know how to keep it running, then the Honda came out and the Pommy bikes died a cruel death.
Cheers Nic.

Thanks lucky, there is a lot of detail you don't get to see in the pics unfortunately but she comes up OK in the pics. She still isn't running right and it was a cold start so I didn't want to hit the revs, I might do another recording and mic up the starter next time, make it real loud and then maybe give it some revs, stay tuned  ;D Can you tell I have nothing better to do :o

Thanks, purple's not for everybody I understand that but I'm partial to it myself, this one has some micro flake in it but it doesn't want to be seen in photos, in the sun it's quite stunning.
Thanks to all for their appreciation. Nic.

Nic ; Thanks for the link to you current build. Super Sweet bike you've built ! Don't feel bad about the purple, I like purple as well ! And I can see the metalflake in the paint ! I realize everyone has their own feeling about how their bike should look, that being said, you've done yourself and the bike Proud !!! I ntoiced you've not said if this motor is stock or if you've done anything inside (performance wise) . If you've done any performance mods, will the step down from the 2" down to your mufflers restrict the exhaust flow any?    ...cougar...

Thanks mate, the engine has all new bearings, chains and tensioner/adjusters, rebore 1st over, cycleX hi flow valves and bronze guides, kibble springs, CX-1 cam and a little porting, the PO has had someone ,er "rebuild" the top end :o it had not been fired up since then luckily but someone also has hacked out 3 of the combustion chambers, not full hemi but about half way and only 3 so I got out the trusty dremil and matched the last one and tidied up the other 3 best I could. I CC'd the head and it all looked pretty even. When I finally fired up the bike after bench syncing the carbs I put on the gauges and the carbs were spot on so the cambers must be pretty even. The previous er, "mechanic" had also forgotten to put in the cam chain slipper and the two outer Orings under the cam blocks, nice. There was also some rock ard black stuff on each side of the head gasket, it was everywhere and I had to chip it out of all the stud holes etc, the cam chain jointing link was bent as well.
The mufflers are straight through, they have a long baffle with wading around the outside but there's no restriction, the step down won't hurt it at all, 2" to 1 1/2", actually I'm not rapt in the note, a bit barky, esp with a bit of throttle, I really liked the Dunstall decibel silencers but they are long gone now.
Cheers mate. Nic.

Nic ; Very cool that you've gone and done up the motor with the additions you've mentioned ! Although I've never been in my motor since I got the bike 4 years ago it seems to have a Nice power band. Although I've not ridden a stock SOHC750 I almost feel like mine has had work done to it, 'cause it pull like a SOB with the 17/43 sprockets it has on it. When I first got it it had 17/48 sprockets and when I'ld yank the throttle from about 3500 it would try to pull the front wheel off the ground. I'm sure if I would have gone with a larger sprocket on the rear pulling the front wheel would have been no problem at all. But I'm not really into racing from stoplight to stoplight with this bike, just cruising. My project bike will be more performance oriented as I plan on building a Turbo bike using most everything from a 1982 Yamaha SECA 650 Turbo that I bought for parts. I understand about not quite liking the tone of an exhaust. My current muffler is an exhaust tip from a local Monster truck (I think) that I found along side the road,LOL ! After I sanded all the chrome down (ruffing it up) I sandblasted it and shot it with multiple coats of High Temp semi-gloss black (I don't like chrome  :o) . I bought a 4>1 with a flat collector and did the same to it which was nice till I destroyed it (the collector) coming up my driveway . Then I bought a (so I'm told) Tri-Y type Hondamatic header. Then I had to cut and reweld a larger inlet to my muffler to fit the Hondamatic header because it had a larger outlet then the first 1. Pics of the exhaust are here,  http://www.flickr.com/photos/41094004@N07/sets/72157624056071846/ . I built my own baffle also shown in the link, which I originally wrapped with fiberglass which gave it a mean low growling tone  :D ! The baffle matches the inlet and the slots you see are where I cut partway through the pipe then bent them down into the baffle so when the exhaust hits them it's directed out into the packing material. After a couple of seasons the packing had blown out, so I tried wrapping it with multiple layers (15 I think) of wire window screen,LOL ! But it has just a little to tinny sound for me so I'll probably repack it with a layer of fiberglass again. I'm trying to add a short vid of my bike with sound http://www.flickr.com/photos/41094004@N07/8309950596/#secrete56845bb64in/set-72157624777973420  just to give you an idea of what my bike sounds like. When I repack the muffler it will have a little deeper tone !!  Here is a link of what my bike looked like when I got it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/41094004@N07/5056412420/#in/set-72157624777973420 Sorry for the poor quality, just didn't think to take a good pic,LOL ! Like I've said I don't know if anything has been done to the motor (internally) !   ...cougar...
