« on: July 15, 2013, 04:56:55 AM »
The oil tank i have has a 1/2 fitting (not able to replace, chopper tank) and the oil cooler i installed uses a 3/8 line. Will going from 1/2 to 3/8 line harm the bike?or will it still have lots of oil flow? Thanks

It is fine it won't pose a massive restriction. Flow area is a bit smaller tho

How about posting some pics of this bike?  You've been here long enough... now it's time for show and tell.

Will get pics this week,so i am thinking that going to 3/8 is ok???if the lines going into the cooler are 3/8 then the inside is also that.Should i just remove the barb fitting at the motor and replace with a 3/8 or leave the 1/2 fitting and run 1/2 hose going to the cooler then going to the oil tank?

I have 3/8 on my chopper and haven't had any problems at all. They have been on there for 4 yrs now.

The CB750 chopper website guys say the 3/8 works ok.
Ken at Cycle -X likes the 1/2 inch . But measure the stock ID and then measure the Inside of the 3/8 and see just how close they are.

The lines to the oil tank are large, due to the lack of pressure. The oil supply line feeding the oil pump actually is a suction hose, and the restriction of the oil cooler and smaller line *may* possibly cause oil starvation at higher RPMs. Oil coolers are normally plumbed in to the high pressure side of the system, at the filter boss.

Havn't been here long, but I do have a lot of past experience with flow of fluids. I wouldn't do it. stick with 1/2" if you can. Starvation on a high RPM motor is not what I would like to experience.
