U ship
« on: July 19, 2013, 10:33:32 AM »
I was curious and looked in u ship's web site, I was surprised to find so many motorcycles looking for a ride somewhere. Who has used them and has anyone transported motorcycles?  I checked for Momos ad and there were 5 or 6 loads from IL. to Pa. and the surrounding area. That could make it worthwhile. One at a time, not so profitable but multiple bikes both ways maybe.

I shipped a zx10 from central Indiana to Laredo Texas using them, the trucker took a week longer then the estimate but the buyer was understanding. The buyer picked it up at Laredo and rode it in to Mexico never to be heard from again. Cost was 525.00 it took two weeks, but all were happy in the end.

I can see where they would try to wait for a second or third load in the area or on the route.

Don,  if a shipper could haul 3 to 5 at a time-and be reliable ;)-  he could make a decent living especially if he could carry the same amount back.  Could be a couple grand for a week of work...Larry

Yes, I have used uship multiple times with no issues.
I was sorry to hear of Larry's issue as he had asked me about shipping bikes.
I think he had multiple reasons for the problem:
1. There were wild fires in Colorado around the time of his pick up.
2. Gap may not be a very popular place to ship too.
3. His shipper had a mech break down.

I have a listing on Uship right now for a K5 I bought in MN.  Have 3 bids with the lowest one at $300.

I have used uship once and while the shipper had some mechanical ossues with their trailer they kept me informed and delivered. They did not just abandon my bike at someoneelse's residence when they had a problem leaving me high and dry like Momo. Big difference...professional versus being borderline criminal.
Maybe Gap PA isn't a destination hotspot but nearby Philly or any number of other areas or points further east would be...so, no excuse for that shipper in my book.

Steve-o,  Gap is only 40 miles west of Philly and I live at the intersection  of US 30 and PA41 but  hopefully the problem has been solved-a shipper with over 200 transactions, 100% feedback and a 5 star rating is supposed to pick up the bike from DonR tomorrow or Tuesday and bring it here within a couple days.  Unlike the "shipper" that abandoned the bike in IL this one has called me twice. No problem with Uship only that goofy "shipper"...Larry

I think one of the newer modern delivery trucks could be employed to haul a few motorcycles at a time. Something with a 4 cyl turbo diesel and good maintainance/economy. I doubt I'm up for it but always willing to investigate an opportunity.

Many of the transport guys use enclosed trailers. First time I used usurp is when I bought my K4 out of KC.  Bullet Transport was his company, he had what have must have been a 40 foot trailer, very nice rig. He had no less than 10 bikes strapped inside and had to move a couple to get mine out.  I don't remember specifics, but all the bikes were very nice, a mix between vintage and modern bikes.

This guy was pulling a 30' or so v nose enclosed trailer, with a pickup. It was empty but the trailer had a PA. license. He said something about starting in the quad cities which is 45 miles or so from here. I mentioned a Ducati that was on his route but he didn't reply. Probably trade secrets.
