Mounting modern calipers on Ceriani Roadrace forks
« on: August 02, 2013, 10:51:13 PM »
Also known as GP forks, I mean the 35 mm version.

I am mounting a 6 piston caliper to a big floating disc. Bad part is the fork legs at the  point where the caliper fits is only 5 inches wide The 6 pot calipers are pretty wide from the disc inwards, which leaves little room
I think I have it sorted, and will have it done soon. I think unless you had a seriously slimmer caliper, it would be very difficult to make it work with a wire wheel.

I am only running one caliper, and rotor, will let you see how it works out.
 Anyone ever done this before?

this is my set up using 6 pot calipers, I had to machine the back side of the calipers to clear the spokes (I tried to match the angle of the spokes)
so much that I machined into the piston pockets. its nice to be able to just weld them up but there is not
a lot of room left. The front end is a GL1000 and the rotors are from an RC51 Honda

on the other hand I machined the mounting tabs on the forks to move in the mounting plates to make these work

So your happy welding the fork legs..?Mine were welded on one side a long long time ago, I need to grind those mounts off and have new ones fitted..  Are those sliders in the pic, up threw the triple clamps some..? if not my forks {tubes}are longer than those..

I try to avoid welding at all costs.. Your legs are thinner than you think. If I told you how thin, you would probably measure them, before you believed me.
If they warp how will you clean up the inside bore and keep it straight? Easier on thicker legs.
I would use machined split mounts for fender or brake if they were missing.
This set is my buddys, mine have the double mounts.
The springs are out right now.

The mounts on them now have been tigged on so i know it can be done, I also understand what you are saying, I planned on taking them to a local engineer I know to have a look at them first, he says he can tig anything so i'll see what he thinks before i do anything.... If its all too much drama i'll sell them and use something else.

i wouldn't weld them either mick , bought a set of M I R forks a few years ago that had been welded . it looked a beautiful job but the slider had distorted , ended up making a steel sleeve which i pressed in and then had it bored straight . of course i then had to alter all the bushes etc  to fit .  there are some jobs you wish you hadnt started !

Hmmmmmm.....looks like i'll have some cerianni's for sale then, they only have a caliper mount on one side and I'm going twin discs {wouldn't ride with one disc at all on an old cb}. Back to the drawing board....  Anyone know what the diameter of Boldor fork sliders  are.?

Just run a good caliper, and mount top and bottom like We are doing.
Not sure but I am thinking at 90mph it should stop good once..but not repeatedly..could be wrong..

The brake mount  bar ties into fender mount and the lower fork pinch bolt.. Should hold that 6 piston brake..
Got a pic of the nearly finished mount, but it wont load up.

Retro what does this no one disc thing mean ?
Are you going soft in the balls department  :o  or have you bulked up and more kg needs more disc ::) ::) ::)

Either way its usually age related.  ;)  Take Young at heart Sam for example, he used to race over a mile, then quarter mile, now just wants to throw his leg over a bike.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Can you see whats happening Retro , stick with your trusty philosophy, just put the best forks and brakes you can afford on. ;D ;D ;D    polish it up, take it out for a nice warm up ride winding through the hills then on the way home, stop at a nice quiet spot, grip on well, big rev dump clutch and smoke out a big donut, when the bike lines up with the road just continue to rev the F#ck out of it smokin up the road, after it hooks up and things settle down punch the air with your fist and think yeh I'm still running this show..................cos for a lot of us mature gentlemen that choice gets taken away from us so as my wise mom said to me just before she passed away .....if the parts still work use them.

Thought for the day Grasshopper !  dont worry about slowing down just worry about going faster. ;D  slowing down comes naturally.
GRASSHOPPER SOHC HONDAS ARE THE MEANING OF LIFE.

And some later versions are made with cast-in mounts for fitting dual calipers in the AP Racing or Grimeca size. RR

Agreed there is more than one version that was produced.  Was referring to the ones on the picture, which appear to be drum legs converted to disk.

Almost every dragbike that used them mounted discs to the GP or roadrace forks, and that is a lot of bikes. THe RC Eng A,T,&SF...used that fork... They seem strongm considemring how light they are built.
