I've got a beautiful F2 tank hanging up in my garage Don. I bought it from a seller in New York who described it as being in "excellent condition" with no dents, but it had been professionally resprayed.
As I was worried about it being damaged in transit, I asked the seller to insure it, which he said he did, and charged me any extra 30 bucks for insurance. When the box arrived, there was a boot sized hole in the box, and not surprisingly, a corresponding dent in the tank, courtesy of either USPS or Aussie Post.
I asked the seller to make an insurance claim, which he said that he would, but I never heard from him again, so I surmised that he'd either made the claim and kept the proceeds, or (more likely) never insured it in the first place.
I'd intended to paint it anyway, but was pissed when I discovered a fair amount of bondo under the old paint. I removed all the paint and bondo, only to discover two holes that had been punched into the tank to pull a dent out, then filled with bondo. Uh-oh.......
I repaired the dents, then brazed the holes, then filled and repainted the tank, and applied new replica F2 decals. It looked lovely. A few months later, I noticed a row of little "blisters" under the paint, and when I pricked one with a pin, gas ran out. Poop.
Luckily, Tim (KGhost) in Texas sent me a nice original paint F3 tank that was virtually rust and dent free, that I repainted, and it was still in excellent shape when I sold it several years afterwards. Cheers, Terry.
