step 1:  download the service manual - it should detail the stock tuning procedure.

Stock main jets should be 100, needle clips 4th groove from top, a/f screws about 1 1/8 turns out.  Carbs 022A.  If stock exhaust and air filter.  Those should be your base settings for tuning.

Which 550 do you have, a K or an F?  Those are the correct jets for a 550F

And tuning is a bit different. Needle clip position is 2nd from the top. Carb # 069A

Start with a valve adjustment, cam chain adjustment and setting the timing. Make sure you have a fully charged battery.
Then, and only then, should you attempt carb tuning.

Set the idle mixture screws per the chart above. Get it warm and get it to idle. Then you can vacuum synch and adjust mixture screws.

i believe its the F its a four cylinder 4 into 1 exhaust the guy at honda said its the F not a super sports.  cause super sports go 4 in to 4.
so the proper jet is 98 then or 100? cause i'll drill the 98 out to a 100 if i have to.  there hard to find

Nope the super sport has the 4 to 1 from the factory.  This was the F model, made 75-77 in the us.  All had 069A carbs.  It would be stupid to drill the jets, imo.  ...Particularly if the exhaust is still stock.

The K models had 4 to 4 exhaust.

The 'guy at honda' clearly doesn't know what he is talking about. It is probably best that you not go to that dealer for advice again, or at least not that person.

F is the model designation for the SOHC4 Super Sport bikes. Here we typically just call Super Sports F bikes, because it's easier to type F than Super Sport.

If you look at the VIN tag on the right side of the steerling head it should say 1975 CB550K or CB550F. The former is a 4-4 bike, the later is the 4-1 bike. The F's say Super Sport on the tank.
