CB750 Tank - New tank now available in Candy sapphire blue

When I first saw these tanks I was stunned over the price. More I look more I thinks it's not that bad. There are plenty of old corroded tanks out there with faded paint. Here new metal tanks with fresh paint.

How much would that be in Americano $$'s ? Guess that was a stock Euro color ?  Looks very nice.

It would be nice to start with a perfect tank, inside and out.  But, that's a lot of money without getting a petcock, badges, a cap, and latch mechanism.

Actually--that is a bargain.
CMS has one tank left for the K7/K8, and it comes in the least desirable color: black instead of the more poular candy alpha red. Price: 1207.50 Euro = $1,615.00.

Yes, it's  much money. The missing parts possible to find on several sites, eBay shops.
But it easy to get used to the price when searching for good tanks. It was possible to find a rather OK CB750 four here 5-10 years ago for that amount of money.

This blue color make me crazy enough to order if I had the money and my wife not understand the price of the package outside the door....

Yah, $1,615 USA money. Cost more than double for a great paint job on a good tank. And if it is truely NOS that paint is still 40 years old.

Yeah, I can get a tank and side covers painted for less than 900$ usd. But I have a hook up thankfully.

So am I an idiot for thinking I can get a pre k7 tank in decent condition for $300?  By decent condition I mean a condition that some Por15, bondo, and paint can bring back to nearly new.

No, you're not an idiot.  You can buy a tank for that but all the Por 15, bondo, and paint won't make it new.

It reminds me about about 28-30 years ago when I contacted the Honda Import company in Sweden asking about a new tank for my K6. They sold all old (NOS) tanks for only $50-100US each (I do not remember exact) closing sale for the old CB750 parts. I did not want to buy when the tanks were the old K1-K4 style with petcock on wrong side (right) and strange colors.  Horrible that I did not buy some for future use!!

Restoring a tank is not that cheap unless you have access to a paint shop with good tools, compressor and spray guns etc. Paint cost too. Primer, base, top and clearcoat + tape, cloths, sanding mtrl....
New side covers to color match. My OEM set cracked very easy so fiberglass versions bought over 30 years ago. Candy is a little bit trickier to paint.

Last time I painted my bike I had access to a professional spray booth and free 2k paint. Only Sikkens clear coat to purchase. That tank need new paint and stripes OEM style.

I remember walking into an area Honda dealership back in the late 80's looking for a nice red 76K tank and the guy came back with a nice new one in the original box. Asked how much. Think he said around $70.00 and I bought it, and they were glad to get rid of it. Man if I knew what I know now I would have been scooping all that stuff off their shelves to 'help' them out  ::)

It would be nice to have several setups in different colors so I can change like my clothes :-)
New clean stuff.
I hope that more can provide the same service in Europe and US to decrease the total price with less shipping and additional VAT.
