Hey y'all, new from Toronto
« on: August 28, 2013, 07:47:41 PM »
Hey everyone! New to the forum and riding, just picked up my first bike, a 1973 Honda Cb350f. He's dreamy.
Looking forward to learning all about how to keep him properly maintained myself, and riding in general!

Welcome from Texas.  Dreamy?

Not often used to describe motorcycles, perhaps.. But I still think it's fitting.
Heck I'd use handsome, dashing, etc, etc..

Welcome Elizabeth.  Nice looking 350 Four you have.

You mention that it is a 1973 model, but it looks like the colour from 1974, which is the year I have.  The tank striping is also gold as opposed to the white used on the 72/73 years, but the emblems on the sidecovers have the correct colouring for those earlier years.

Here's a picture of mine.  Frank and I were at Haugins tonight and your bike would have looked really "dreamy" parked along side mine.  (Here's a link to apicture Frank took tonight: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=121089.msg1434512#msg1434512)

Dang that's a lovely bike you've got there as well!
Everything on mine is listed as a 73, could it be a frankensteined tank with emblems from the correct year, but tank itself from a 74? I'll have to ask the PO about it, he mentioned cleaning the tank but not replacing it.

Curious, do you do all your own maintenance, or have someone in town you take it to?
I'm looking to learn how to tune and maintain him myself, but am always looking for reputable places in the city in case I get in too deep.

I always do my own work.  This forum has been a great place to learn, share, and gather info.  For instance, I found a copy of the Honda Service Manual (Shop Manual) for this model here.  There also is always an opportunity to ask specific questions and learn many other tips.

BTW, you mentioned that you are a new rider.  Did you take a rider's course, and if so, where?  I'm curious because I teach for RTI and also look after a number of their site bikes.  I teach the M1X course and also their Maintenance Course.

Ah nice! I'm signed up for the earliest course I could get with RTI after I got my M1, Sept 12,14,15. Will you be teaching it? I cannot wait!

I'm not scheduled to teach M1X that weekend, but I may be teaching the Maintenance one in North York that Saturday.  I'm sure you'll do fine and hope you enjoy the course.

Dang, too bad I'll miss ya! Would have been an added bonus to pick your brain about my bike. :)
I'm interested in taking the maintenance course once I've got my m2, how late in the season do they usually run until?

Not sure how late they run the Maintenance course.  You should check with the office and they'll know and might schedule some more if there is a demand.

Welcome Aboard!  Isn't it interesting how we tend to refer to our machines by the gender opposite of our own?  Then again, I suppose I would probably get some odd looks if I were to say in conversation "...Yup, I jumped on his back and rode him all the way across town!".   ;D

While I impatiently wait for him to be street legal, I'm having a blast on the side streets and alleys around me.
And yes, while I've had 'female' cars before, this bike is inherently male to me. Perhaps something to do with the difference between 'driving' a car, and 'riding' a bike, ha.
