This is probably what your shaft seals look like.

Old seal disintegrated while removing. The brass retaining ring will lift out without damaging it if you're careful.

This is the crud that generally accumulates in the bosses.

Boss and bushing all cleaned up and ready for new seal.

New seal in place and this carburetor body is now ready for shaft install.

Throttle shaft service is without question the most exacting task you can perform on your carbs.
During install you've got to follow a strict procedure or you'll introduce binding at the throttle plates, and you won't discover it until they're back together and you try to synchronize them. Or I should say when they fail synchronize-ability.
Please don't think I'm trying to knock your abilities---far from it.
It's just that you appear to have never done this before so much caution is called for.
I created PDF covering the correct sequence for CBX carbs but the same rules apply to all carbs with felt seals.
Oh, and I've got felt shaft seals in the hundreds.
