The only things that are taboo are personal abuse and porn.

I must admit to getting a bit tired (tyred?) of some of the conspiracy theory threads but, hey - you don't have to read them!

So, getting back on topic.

I think we should all care about what's going on. Whether it will impact us personally is a different story, but I can't help but think that sooner or later we will all be touched by the effect of terrorism, even if it is by watching gruesome scenes on the TV..

I for one do not feel put out in the slightest if I have to wait forever to get through security screening at an airport. I'd rather they find something suspicious in some numbnuts luggage and throw it out than be at 35,000' when something catrastrophic happens.

Where it will all end is, of course, the $64,000 question....

Where it will end is a major offensive in the middle east by the end of 2007, if not earlier. Expect USA, Brittain and Isreal to go after nearly any Islamist country (save Turkey) in the middle east.
Iran and Saudi Arabia are next. There might be a slight lull while we watch what Isreal is doing. 'Secretly', we will be giving Isreal the go-ahead to 'protect' themselves against all Islamist nations who even hint at helping whoever Isreal is blowing up. When these Middle Eastern countries start helping against Isreal openly, is probably when we'll step in to 'lend a hand' officially. Expect a drop in imports and exports from countries who will not support us. Eventually, the French and Germans will get on board when they can protect their own interests without looking like they were part of the people who started it. I don't know what Russia and China will do.

I don't remember implying that it will end terrorism.

Only that a full scale war in the Middle East is the 'end' result of the current goings-on over there.

There are planty of people willing to pick up the "My God told me to kill your civilians" torch. The Phillipines, North Africa, the Balkans, East Africa (#$%*, all of Africa..) Southeast Asia, our own homegrown Islamists...hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see terrorists from our own countries at that point blowing #$%* up over there.
It's a #$%*in mess. It's not just Islamists that are terrorists. They are just the most active right now. Look at what the IRA was doing up until recently.

I think we are on the same page, I thought you were implying that a war in the middle-east will end terrorism when in fact the opposite is more likely the case.

Unfortunatley, you'd ahve to turn Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia, The Balkans, and many southern islands into glass sheets as well :(

In my naivete I believe that if everyone kept out of everyone else's business things would be a lot 'happier' than they are now. Unfortunately the 'strong' will always tend to take advantage of the 'weak', and it's then that the 'weak' kick the 'strong' in the nuts.

And in the meantime the fence-sitters watch to see when it is opportune to side with the 'strong' or the 'weak'.

Problem is, these days the 'weak' have access to much more forcible ways to hurt the 'strong' than a kick in the nuts. I fear that something like that portrayed in the 'Sum of all Fears' is just around the corner...

Sadly, it doenst work this way. Even if we completely left them alone, their religious and political leaders would need a scapegoat to blame the poverty and hardships of their country on. Who better to blame it on than the larger, more powerful, richer countries?
We see this in micro and macro views trhoughout our existence. It happens on small to large scales, fractaly. From individuals to whole countries. Sorry :(

A review of historical uS involvement, or should I say entanglements in foreign business might shed some light
on why some of us think it would be better to be less entangled. The government in washingtons is led
by idiots. Doesn't matter which party is in power, their all idiots, a requirement for political ambitions.

Only, save one that is, Ron Paul from Texas.

I don't think we should be pointing fingers at the US, specifically. All throughout history there have been 'strong' civilisations that have taken advantage of 'weak' ones....the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Spanish, Portugese, Brits, Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Chinese (and so it goes on).

That's very true.
'taking advantage of' would be a very recent description of relations between countries over the millennia.
"Terrorism" supposedly attacks people that are taking advantage of the people that have terrorsit groups.
In older terms, it would just be a group of people we are at war with.

Again, we are largely blamed for the sorry state of their living conditions, which is blatantly untrue. This is where it starts. After that, you just need enough things to build on to get people to kill themselves to blow up 'enemy' civilians.

.....and of course when you are dealing with people who believe that they go straight to heaven when they blow themselves up you have the added fear that anyone could be a potential terrorist.
