« on: August 21, 2006, 10:38:45 PM »
Now this #$%* was funny. Crazy biker build off on dirt bikies. Got a love the "Booger eatin' Harley Builder" Comment.

Cafe's are not that far off I think.

Yes the Discovery Channel Biker Build Off.

Or in the case of the last Billy Lane build, "The Great Biker Burn Off" dip#$%* set his bike on fire with a leaking gas tank and no level of creativity to fix it on the road. Funny though, it made a 6 foot flame out the filler neck. I think he was checking the gas level with on of those BBQ lighters.  ;)

I thought it was lame.  Those guys put on a couple bells and whistles and that's about it.  Any thing that took any real skill was out sourced to folks with cnc machines.  Other than that it was all bolt on.

"oh, I'm goin to fab up 300 lbs of worthless, chromed metal to weld onto the bike and create lots of unsprung mass to keep the thing well over 800 lbs. That's what customizing bikes is about, right???"

That's true. I guess it's better, It's not like those iron turds have any suspension to begin with. Theres more flex in those raked front ends than there is travel in the springs, and the damned rear ends are almost always hard tails. Springs in the seat for the win! That'll help you take corners :/
No.

really, now that i think of it, if you got no spring, it's all pretty much unsprung, eh?

Jesse James did a cafe out of a Honda VTX in 2003.

Some of the chopped #$%* those builders come up with is pretty ill. It's not all garbage.

true.  there's some skill.  i think the problem is more with the networks philosophy of "hey, that's got some viewers, lets make a million others just like it"

Home Wrecker is "Custom" but it weighs in much less than stock. I figured I lost about 50# over all. Maybe more, I guess I should get it on a scale.

Nice, but at $30,000 plus to start he has missed the most esential part of Cafe racer styleTHEY WERE CHEAP you did not need a loan to build one.

#$%* half the time you could sell off your stocker parts your were taking off and make the money you needed for the build.

I thought the dirt bike build off was lame.

Billy lane only needed some handy dandy Seal-All and he would have been fine.  I used to have a tube in the glove box.  If there were fresh drips I would crawl under and find the new hole in the tank of my old '76 280-Z. Lasted for months with no issues.

It would be nice to see something other than V-twins all the time.

I am fixing it, but with parts that make the bike look how I want it to.... The selling of old cracked plastic bits has put me well on the way to getting the parts I want.
