BabyHawk.. the CB160 build.

Affectionately named the babyhawk I washed both the 1968 and 1969 model. Both bikes are complete with the exception of the 68 mufflers and seat.

Not sure. Fenders, side covers and fork lowers will be painted. Prefer to keep the red paint. We will see how it shines up. The CT90 I did looked like new.

I think I sold my Tundra today.  ;D I will miss it but don't use it. After all it's an 08 with 13100 original miles.

Now we have bike money!

Welcome! Keep an eye out for air cleaners and handle bars. On the "hit list" and hard to find.

I have made the decision to redo the front and rear wheels. I can buy OEM rims at David Silver. He also offers aftermarket for less. 1.85x18 36 hole.

Honda still sells the spokes. Aftermarket at DS.

Will need the hubs polished. I believe several members here do this.

Any thoughts on spokes? Not worried about any rust factor here in Arizona.

I'll check it out. It's a CB160. Honda OEM are $2.15 each.

Time to get started. I removed the tank and gave it a quick polish. Nothing heavy.



But speaking of heavy there is quite a bit of rust inside. Greggo, the fill spout is to small for golf balls. I'll have to figure out something else.



I removed the valve tappet covers and it was as clean as a whistle! Very dry but super clean. I soaked the rockers and springs with some Marvel as well as the cylinders. Carburetor slides are clean and slide easily. Was surprised but they will get redone none the less. The points are shot.



Hooked up a shop battery and everything works. Horn, headlight, starter etc.



This however was a big surprise. Although titled as a 1969 I do in fact believe this to be a first year 1965. I'll need to research.

With a little research, I was able to find out a ton of information on my CA95, and I believe you'll find even more on this bike.

Toy - I used drywall screws to loosen the rust inside the RD350 tank.  Worked well. Then I coated with the Caswell sealer. Pleased with the results, only 6 months so far though.

The issue is volume. I need something to increase the level of the chemical. Like adding rocks to a glass of water. After soaking I'll strain the chemical then reapply using a small chain.

Coating is a last resort.

This morning I ordered more parts from my NY supplier and from David Silver new OEM rims and F/R spokes. A few other things I could not get here. Expensive morning already.  ;)

I adjusted the valves @ 003. They were a little tight. Hooked up the shop battery and checked the timing. A little off but correct now. Of course when I install the new points this will be done again.





Time for compression. Always a "finger crossing" time huh?

Spec is 128 to 149 psi. With fingers crossed I got this.

Left 142



Right 139



As we all know this will come up once running. I have half a notion to hook a aux. tank and see if it will start. Wouldn't that be something!  8)

How about marbles for filler?  You'd certainly want to be careful putting the first handfulls in, but they could work well, and they're cheap!

Going to drop the float bowls today and take a look. All I would have to do is find a fuel T, 1 1/2 quarts of oil and gap the plugs.

Want to start soaking the tank today. Although the instructions say a couple of hours I'm thinking a couple of days.  ::)

Larry, you got my curiosity fired up! After all, this is a Winter build so no hurry. Being retired offers many days of "whatever."

Got the heat gun out and warmed up the bowls. Much to my surprise these things are very clean! Going to fuss with it a bit and see if she will run.  ;)
