Correct Fuel Hoses for 74 CB750?
« on: October 28, 2013, 06:53:10 AM »
Good morning!
I'm still cleaning up that 74 CB750 barn find that we talked about last week and I have a quick question about the fuel hoses. The hoses that came with the bike look like replacements. They are black rubber hoses and I'm not sure they are routed and hooked up correctly. I've attached some photos. Photo 27 shows the markings on the large hose, which is all Greek to me, but maybe it will mean something to you guys. The large hose goes from the petcock across the top of the carb set to a fitting just above carb 1 (driver's left) see photo 28. The smaller hose runs from the petcock under carb 4 to a fitting above carb 4 (see photo 31). I guess the inside diameter of the existing hoses must be correct or they wouldn't fit the fittings on the petcock or the carbs, but they look big. Does everything look OK to you guys? Should I just go ahead and order the correct OEM fuel lines (95001-35003-60M) or will any gas rated hose be OK as long as the ID is correct?
Thanks!

The hose with the writing on it is not stock of course. Does it fit through the hole in the carb bracket visible in the bottom picture as it should route through that or is it too fat ?. If the bike is a runner now good fitting fresh fuel line is a good thing. You will get some suggestions

Get the proper hose. It typically has to be ordered. You want 3/16" I believe.

I got tired of running "over the counter" black hoses that were basically the same size that you have in the picture. Even with clamps (which are very hard to use on the carb inlet), the hose would still leak if it wasn't perfectly seated. They also are not flexible and don't work in some situations on certain bikes.

The old hose also required clamps. A 3/16" hose doesn't require any clamps.

This is a moose racing hose with your usual filter. It's nice being able to see the fuel too:

I'm not certain about the 750s, but here's the part # for 5.5mm hose, get it from your local Honda dealer.  ;)

Yes, 5.5mm is stock but I can't get it in Canada, at least I haven't found a supplier.

There are lots of guys using the 3/16" with no fuel starvation issues and it's available everywhere.

OK, so let me make sure I'm understanding your photos correctly...
First of all, it looks like both hoses in your photos are the same OD, so that they can fit through the holes in the mounting plate (3/16" ID)?
Second, what I now have as a huge black rubber house laying on top of my carbs really should be threaded under carb 4 then through the mounting plate and then looped to the inlet near carb 1?
Does it make any difference which hose is connected to which outlet on the petcock?
Thanks!

Long line from 1/2 carbs thru upper hole. Short line from 3/4 carbs thru lower hole.
Long hose to front most port on valve, short hose to rearmost port on valve.

Cut hoses to length as listed...Sorry, don't know what diameter the hose is. These instructions are from a kit I bought from ebay seller dgs38...BOTH installed hoses should be the of the same diameter.

Yes, 5.5mm is correct for CB750. Usually not available from local haedware. It is 7/32".

3/16" is too tight and will split if its a cheap hose. It will work if its good quality and you can force it on.

1/4" is too loose, but will work if held on with a clamp.

We had a couple of selling programs where a member bought a quantity of 7/32 from this place and then resold smaller amounts to members. No such programs lately though.

The price is reasonable but they have a $12 S&H. So you got to buy a bunch to make it worthwhile, then sell off to cover your costs.

A bit pricey but the hose is perfect size and slips on and off super easy and no need for claps and it doesn't leak either!

I've got all I need, but if you chat it up, you'll probably sell out. Other than those that just have to have black, the semiclear colors are the way to go.

Don't all Japanese motorcycles use the same size fuel hose?

If my local Honda dealer is out of hose, I just go to a Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Suzuki dealer.
