Vapor blasting with pics.
« on: February 04, 2014, 11:18:18 AM »
Just thought I would post pics of my vapor blasted KO head. The head was in very good condition and was well cleaned with various cleaners. I was not painted (supposedly from the factory) and had what appeared to be mineral water stains on the horizontal fin surfaces. It was also dark colored, not at all like natural cast aluminum. I tried aluminum brightener with no effect, the surface was impervious to any treatment.

Sent it off the Vapor Blast Canada in Chilliwack BC with these results:

Close up of fine, satin finish:

I'm very satisfied with the results and plan to send H1 parts on the next restore. The process is very affordable, $65 Canadian for a four cylinder head or jugs. Used the post office to ship, round trip $45.

The owner, Kevin is great to work with, good communication and even shipped the head back on a Sunday!

The casting is absolutely clean with not a trace of grit or dust either internally or externally, one of the advantages of blasting media with water.

I have yet to find a local vapor/soda blaster in or near Long Beach.

Thanks, RR.  Unfortunately, I do not want to do further business with the parent company.

Wow. I haven't used them yet and I'm still looking for someone in the San Diego area. If I find another vendor I'll let you know.

The company in the Pacific Northwest seems to get good press but the shipping would just about kill me! RR
