where to get an axle for cb550 & air box question?
« on: December 05, 2013, 08:59:56 PM »
I have a 1976 cb550k and trying to locate where I can get a front axle

The kicker is I need it to be fedex delivered because I live in a remote area in Utah and can only get packages through fedex. I found plenty USPS on ebay.

In process of serious cleaning and touch up. I currently have a frame and an engine and pieces all over garage and just got a new rim for front and found out axle threads and nut are stripping.

Also trying to figure out if there is suppose to be a hose and where it goes (refer to picture)

Engine breather hose goes there.

Can't help with the axle...maybe you could find one on amazon and have it drone delivered!

Engine breather hose goes there.

Actually, that's where a drain hose attaches. Engine breather hose routes to a small elbow connected to the base of the air filter box. Here's more info:

SohRon -  looked at forum doesn't show hose hooked to it in diagram.  Do i just need to get a hose and run it down behind the engine with the rest. Mine had about a 2 in long hose that was cut.  Oh and I wish my engine was even close to as clean as that.

doing some research if 500 is the the same axle if any knows please chime in

calj737 -  mine measures just under 22cm in total lengt.

Partzilla says 76 cb550 and 500 have different part #s but that doesn't really mean much still could be same part

The red circled nipple is in fact a drain hose in the event the air plenum fills with gasoline.  It is definitely NOT an engine breather fitting.
It originally had a reduced diameter hose on it (to limit air ingress) where the exit was about 1/8 inch and had a bit of open cell foam stuffed into the end to keep the bugs out and accumulated liquid to drain.

Read the entire post I referenced; it shows what hoses are needed and how to route them.

anyone got an idea is 73 500 uses same axle as 76.  Found different part numbers and various Ebay sellers say they fit both but can't really trust that

Believe I have a spare, if the 500 axle turns out not to fit.  Either way, I can look in the garage if you need me to.

According to my very old parts books the 500, early 550 and 750 all have the same front axle
