Cb500 Petcock question.
« on: December 31, 2013, 07:34:16 AM »
I put some evaporust in my tank to make sure it was clean (it was very clean anyway but wanted to be sure.) My question is this. When draining I noticed that fluid was only draining from one of the petcock tubes. This happened whether it was set to Reserve or On. Soooooo, I took off the bowl, removed the seal and screen. That's as far as I got without getting nervous. I see two screws which I assume connects the petcock to the tank. What's my next step to cleaning this baby?

That was easy. One on the brass tubes was so clogged with varnish I thought someone sealed it off on purpose! I used a pipe cleaner from the kids craft set and got it all cleaned up. Piece of cake. However, the brass tube is cracked. PB Weld?

Some guys try soldering it. Some find a new pipe that will slide over the old exactly. Or you could try this:

New ones are still available, don't forget to fit new fiber washers on the screws that hold it to the tank or gas will leak through to the carbs all the time---generic ones don't fit properly and the Honda ones ain't cheap
