The brass bits on my petcock were done for! It had a brass drain tube that was completely cracked, and a missing brass fuel line nipple/barb. So I made a set.

Hopefully if anyone ever has a similar situation, they can just jump in a try things like this as brass is easy to work with and fairly cheap.

7/16" brass tube and 1/4" brass barbed compressor fitting. Both tapered and tapped in with a small hammer.

I did the same thing to the "main" tube in the tank, mine was split all the way down the side.  Nice work.

This is exactly what I am needing to do!  I bought the bike without the reserve tube and without a functional speedo, so running out of gas was a very real possibility.  Thanks for the pics, it will really help out! ;D

I've heard of soldering the reserve tube in place...have you heard of this?  Is it easier to just taper it and tap it in with a hammer?  Should I use JB Weld or anything else to ensure seal?

Well done!  I like your lathe ;)

Maybe some Red Loctite would be good here?

My vote for creative use of tools. My calipers only have a round dial with little numbers, not the BIG digy numbers, I guess I'll have to find another way...

Nice work with what you have

How did you taper the tube? Also, where can I get the tubing ? Home Depot ?
