I'm in the strategy phase (read as: not really doing anything yet) of building a stainless steel 4 into 4 exhaust to look a lot like the original built by Honda. I think the really tricky part is going to be dodging around the kickstand and center stand. I've looked at lots of pictures but need some closeups of the pipes where the stands are mounted - preferably with the stands in both the up and down positions so I can see how the clearances are obtained. Shots from underneath showing bends and crimps would be handy too. As you may have guessed, I want to retain both stands. A shot or two of the right side exhaust would be helpful, so I can see differences in the two sides. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'll take some photos this evening. I'd be very interested to see what you come up with. Perhaps there is someone in your neck of the woods
that has a roller or a set of pipes they could loan you while you come up with a plan. Anyone ?

I've mocked up stuff for projects(non motorcycle) using 3/4 or 1" PVC pipe and a heat gun.
There is a very small window of heat before the pipe will collapse.
Might be worth a shot.

I'm not familiar with the numbering system for exhausts but as long as they're OEM-looking and dodge the stands, they'd be good photo subjects.

The plan, at the moment, is to use a CycleX set as a base. That'll get the flange and front bends taken care of. Then attempt to build four reverse cone mufflers and cobble together some pre-bent stuff to achieve the goal. My neighbor (who is a good MIG welder) and I (who is a bad MIG welder) are going to practice together MIG welding 304 stainless. He wants to make an exhaust set for his VW bus. I don't really want the cool looking TIG ruffles on the pipes. I'll smooth out the welds to make the pipes continuous looking. One thing we might need is a "purge gas" inside the pipe when we weld. Still learning. When I get around to it, I'll post pics of the progress.

I've want to to try making some for years, but always thought they would have to be tig welded - curious to see how welding the stainless with a mig turns out. I'm not bad with a mig, but I'd have to get another bottle for the straight argon. One of these days...

You need some stuff called Tri-mix. We're going to give it a go and see how it works out.
Yes I've pored through Coneng.com. Flybox has their quiet muffler and I might prevail upon him to give me a sound demo someday (he lives near me). But their mufflers are shorter than stock so I'm going to at least try to "roll my own" from sheet material.

Those exhausts look great and I'm sure they're much better than what I'll cobble together. However, they are shorter than stock and don't allow for a center stand - according to Hondaman.

Nccb, nice pipes you have there.

A side note, I notice that your foot pegs mounted pointing forward when they fold up, I thought they swapped left and ride sides. You might kick on it when use kick start. But I could be wrong though

Very interested in this part if you do end up making some. I've seen at least two listing on the for sale forum for the stock headers with the mufflers chopped. I'm getting waaayyyy ahead of myself but I intend to pick up another project bike once I finish my K2 and I would love to have a custom 4-4 set using stock headers, somewhat of a stock+kerker hybrid. Mufflers folded round but angled/scissor style like the stock ones that use the same mounts. Something along these lines

I've welded a lot of schedule 10 stainless. depending on the grade it will sugar on the inside without a purge. We used straight Argon. (Cheaper anyway) Masking tape or cardboard with a small hole in one end, hose in the other end taped tight. If you listen closely at the purge hole you will hear a change in the sound when the air is replaced and argon begins to flow out. A flowmeter saves purge gas if you can borrow one. Good luck, should be fun.
