Ceramic coated exhaust
« on: January 02, 2014, 04:52:05 AM »
My exhaust on my '77 550F needed to have something done with it.  Brown's plating discouraged me from rechrome because of the intricate bends and clearances.  I chose ceramic coating by Jet Hot.  I finally remembered to get some pics but they are too big for this email.  If youu want a pic email me at wardenerd@yahoo.com

What color did you choose?  Are you happy with it?

Thanks!

I had a local shop do mine last year in satin black.

btw, I highly recommend starting a Photobucket account to post photos here. It is much easier than having to resize the photos to upload.

Bagger,

Looks awesome!

I am doing a somewhat stock resto, and was wondering about Jet Hot's Polished 1300 and how close it can pass for chrome.

No ceramic is close enough to pass as chrome. It is a very shiny silver and has to be polished in a tumbler after coating. It's a very expensive piece of equipment and uses a very expensive amount of media to accomplish. It can be polished with glass bead blasting or steal wool but don't have the same finish as tumbling. We offer all the ceramics except the chrome look ones.

Those are great examples!  I am thinking that it will look great on the Cb550F's Header.  I was thinking to maybe re-chrome it, but I think it may be a problem due to Chrome Shops hating to do Exhausts...

What do you guys think???

Was this from Jet Hot? There stuff is top grade as close to chrome as you can get. But I can not tell from your photo They don't look quite as bright but it could be the photo.

My local ceramic coater has a coating they call Chromex that has the appearance of highly polished aluminum and has a heat rating of 1300 degrees, looks really good in person.

Interesting stuff. Have you tried it out on one of your own bikes? My 400 header is in need of some lovin'. It does have but a few small dents but someone took a wire wheel to it and the luster is less then great.  Thanks!  Here is another set of satin black pipes from my last build. The PO had them done before I bought it. He said they were satin black.?..

Yes, that looks like satin black I am running the same on my 915.  No, I have not tried the chromex on any of my builds but have seen samples and it looks good.

K8 and Thirsty,
These are Rare NOS 4 into 2 pipes that I scored on sleaze bay and immediately had coated buy a local mom and pop auto shop that does ceramic on the side. He vibratory polished a set of sohc engine covers that turned out perfect, then somehow screwed up a set of gs1100 covers. So as a return favor he did these pipes for $100. I would recommend him for someone that is local, so if they have an issue they can go to him in person.
I have considered getting sets of covers polished then selling them.
