Topic: One family owned K4 750

 I started work on my brother's "bought new" Sunrise Orange K4 750 today. I removed the windjammer clamps and wiring, put the old headlight ring back on and started to repair the sticky front brake. I have a way better caliper so I put it on and will renew the seal so I can move it around and still use the front brake. 
 I remember my ex-sister in law tipping this bike over onto my K3 during a road trip. She was too tired to stand up and insisted on sitting on it. I would have liked to say more than I did but didn't want to ruin the trip.
 I bought a correct 341 repro exhaust for it but may wait for a no number set to be available since this one is my last to go when I can't enjoy them anymore. 
  He's 81 now, not riding and still wants me to swap in a big bore engine and lower it back to where he likes it. I prefer to hot rod something else that's less original.

 Thinking back, this has had a brake drag when pushing it while turning. I'll rebuild the caliper, lube the caliper hinge,  loosen and re-tighten the fork bolts bottom up to see if it gets better.   
 Sound right?
  Edit, I swapped the crusty caliper for one with nice paint and a new seal, added a little silicone lube and flushed about a pint of fluid through it. It had a nice set of stock pads, I think it came off of a 10K mile wreck.  The drag is gone, thank goodness. 
 I freshened the old caliper too and will soda blast it the next time I have it out.

 Hooooooweeee! I found a chrome K4 swingarm with new bushings.  Too bad someone chromed it lol. This K4 needs the bushings but surely not the chrome.

 I have a really nice oil pump, 10,000 miles and 10 oil changes. It was wrecked and sat for a couple decades. The top end had mouse damage but the crankcase was gorgeous so I'm going to rebuild that oil pump and swap them out, then replace the sprocket shaft seal when I bring it home in the spring. This is my keep forever bike, even when the K0's are gone.

 Here is my brother's (and mine) K4 with my K2. He put on a gl fender, lowering shocks, and that's not the correct tank, just an old one I had to sit on it while I clean things up a bit.

 I bought 5 bikes a few years ago and got the NOS K4 seat that's on it. I bought a 341 repro exhaust a year ago. I'm still debating on whether to use it on this bike or wait for an incorrect 300 no number set.

 I began a thorough cleaning of the flake orange gas tank today, and gave it a dose of cleaning vinegar and some Dawn dish soap. This is a pre-clean before the Evaporust goes in. I only have 3 gallons, so it will need to be rotated quite a bit. I'm hoping to not wear out the Evaporust on one tank, it isn't bad, no visible pitting you can see, but the K2 tank that I acid washed a couple years ago re-rusted. I used northern brand tank sealer from carquest, I'm not a fan and now I'm concerned about my gl1000 tank that has it also.

Don…. If the tank isn’t leaking, why seal it? The only one that has lasted for me is Caswell, but I hate the stuff……

 I agree, the K2 tank was seriously pitted, I had hoped the sealer would keep it from rusting. I don't really see the blue in my gl tank. I wonder if it dissolved into the gas.
  Now that I've looked in the tank the gl is running poorly again. The GL is the poster child for Hondamans theory about modern slow burning fuel spitting back into the intake. I got caught out of gas and put some mid-grade in it. never again.
 I began cleaning the K4 tank with some cleaning vinegar and drywall screws. It came out looking like weak coffee. There was a small dixie cup of rust particles came out with the flush water.
 Next up is a bucket of Evaporust with a gallon more to top it off. I was hoping for some more of the strong sun we've had lately but it's raining now, so the Evaporust won't work as quickly. It likes heat.
 I got a can of Evaporust rust preventive spray, I may not use it and just go to alcohol rinse and then some 2 stroke oil in airplane gas.
 I have no sealer, and usually have some 2 stroke oil in every tank so I'm hoping for the chemo to cure it.

 Man, this tank looks awesome, the vinegar did the heavy lifting, it came out really dark and brought out chunks of rust, and then the Evaporust finished it up. It sat in the sun all day, I think temps make a difference.
 The Evaoprust that came out looks pretty clear and the tank is totally silver. It got a water flush, a rinse with heet a half can at a time, then blown out with my leaf blower with a cone fitting on it.
 I used the aerosol Evaporust metal finisher that is supposed to keep it rust free for up to a year. Hopefully the fog coated everything in there. I think I'll give it a day or two and check for flash rust.
