Joe..........My estimate was 123-128.........NOT 130 ;D ;D ;D

If you get over 125 I may be on my knees wanting to borrow that fairing ;)

BTW..........have you been watching the weather at Wendover.........Sunny and clear, mild wind, no rain in the forecast............the salt must be getting REAL NICE by now. The SCTA event remains cancelled but they are running at the Mojave airport on a 1.5+ mile runway. I know it could still rain sometime between now and late August, but once the salt is dry, a little shower won't be too bothersome.

heya Dennis

cmon man i can fantasize its the internet..haha

the new cam i had made,i sent them what i had and told them what i was doing, they put it in this thing named the Cam Doctor and took all the specs, then added some duration and a smidge more lift..so i fantasized about that and the new pipes and fairing getting me to 130..

but yeah im thinking the salt is actually gonna be pretty nice myself, the first time i went out there we ran as much as we wanted pretty much,no rain, etc etc..hope its our time this year.

How did your new fender work out?Is it all mounted up?

Sent it back to get a lot of material ground away and lose some weight :(  Will get it back in a few days to try again. I lost 6-lbs. by switching to an L-I battery.

New weather report has possible showers for next Tuesday!

just got this in an email...

Salt Course Conditions Update
Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2015
AMA Land Speed Grand Championship

We are still running.
The season continues and motorcycles will be heading to the salt to break AMA national and FIM world records August 29-September 3rd.

Boots on the Ground
Our Race Director and a contingent of BMST volunteers will be onsite the weekend of August 8th and 9th to evaluate course locations. As we look forward to another exciting year of the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, AMA Land Speed Grand Championship, we are encouraged by recent reports but we need to be on location with "Top People" to determine exactly what is available for the best motorcycle land speed racing courses.

Is the salt improving?
Yes! And.. not all of the area we race were impacted. A report from a recent fly-over by a friend of BMST indicated that the area affected is looking more "salt-flats" and less "mud-flats." That info, and the recent reports from the salt, indicate that conditions are improving and that we have a few potential course locations.

What do you mean by course locations?
Every racing group has a slightly different race setup and course location. We have unique needs that are different from SCTA and USFRA. Every year, we evaluate salt conditions with an excellent team of volunteers that, collectively, have decades of experience on the salt. Thanks to this experience Rex, Mel, Bob and Brad were able to develop the two courses on an island in the lake last year. This year, there is less water but other obstacles to deal with. We will be looking at the available salt and determining the optimal course setup the weekend of August 9-10.

Keep wrenching and getting ready to go. We are getting ready, and we are looking forward to starting the AMA Land Speed Grand Championship with you.

See you on the salt!

Sincerely,

Yes, Martin is now the 'seat of the pants' rider. Apparently DeSalvo could not handle the ride, even had a mild crash event.  During the first trial runs in 2013 the comment got back to me that 'so far, the guy on the Cub is faster than this thing'. All I know for sure is they have yet to ask me to take it out for a test run ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

We have 2 rooms at the Knights Inn beginning Friday night...............so if you can make it you would be a big help getting through tech ;) ;) ;)

I have not heard from Ken. Supposedly a rain shower passed over Wendover today...........first one in more than 10 days..........and it looks good for the next week.  We should have a report from the BMST crew at the salt-flats by next Sunday or Monday.

Chain-breaker and safety-wire are not my specialties. I will have my tool-box packed. Since we are very close after the dyno-runs, hopefully a jet-change or a sprocket change will do.........UNTIL WE GET TO IMPOUND ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.............I have a separate box to place all of the parts for tear-down. Also have a wrap for the motor to keep the salt out ;)  If all goes well on the road, we should arrive mid to late afternoon on Friday. I have your cell # so will call during Friday. Maybe you will need a pair of mechanics gloves............to make sure the cold can of beer won't slip through your hands ;D ;D ;D

You will have good conversation with my Brother-in Law, David........many bikes and a former K4 owner.........and long-time friend Frank, many bikes and current K0 owner. David was part of my crew on my first trips to the salt........Frank is a rookie, but thinks fast and carries a big stick..........he's a logger from International Falls ;D

I go west on I-90 through southern Minnesota and then may take 14 into S.D. that meets I-90 a little east of Rapid City. Will be overnight someplace in S.D.  Thursday is a day of secondary roads through Wyoming and get on I-80 at Rock Springs or farther west near Evanston for an overnight. Then Friday AM coast downhill into Utah and stop for lunch at the Tooele exit. Then its about 75-miles to Wendover. 1,700 miles gets REAL boring if you just stay on the interstate. This way we get to avoid Nebraska ;D ;D

After months of configuring, searching, consulting, and doing a lot of comparisons with a Honda CBR600 F3 sitting a few yards outside of Dave's shop, we decided to keep it simple and added the above intake-ducts in an attempt to provide sufficient air to the carbs. We changed the velocity stacks to 54mm soft rubber units from an '80s Suzuki and the K&N filter now sits on the bench in favor of a flat screen sitting just below the stacks. The bottom of the box is empty. We removed the inner-plate from the upper box and used its outer edge to frame the screen. The majority of our decision is based on the need to flow un-obstructed air to the carbs when above 10,000 rpms.  The dyno-testing clearly showed a loss of performance when the 'restricter' plate was in the box.

When I am on the bike my knees are pressed to the tapered rear corner of the air-box and the box retains the top-mounts to the frame. An interesting side note; a standard K-box would fit inside of the F2-F3 box.  A few more refinements and fitting the front fender will wait until next week...............but we are getting close with a full 3-weeks to go. ;D

Clean and simple - I like it...obviously you are concerned about airbox volume being a restricting factor..?
I've not had anything to do with salt racers, what about a larger custom alloy airbox..? that flows more cfm..?

Hotdog.............We trial-fitted several cardboard box configurations but the chassis-frame is a challenge. Our real goal was to feed air from between the forks at the neck, either through the tank tunnel or along the outside of the tank, into a box above the frame and have downward connectors to an air-box on the carbs. That was too much plumbing and had numerous seams and joints prone to leaking which would defeat the goal of ram-air assistance.

After we ran last year with the stock-box and K&N filter we noticed salt solution in the fuel-bowls. We will attempt to keep the bike covered and out of any wind when not actually making a run. A mild breeze seems to lift salt-dust several feet from the surface. I have had to wash salt from the top of my van and trailer.
