Cylinder boring in Seattle area...?
« on: May 03, 2014, 07:14:49 AM »
A while back I read a thread about a great place to get your cylinders bored in the Seattle area, unfortunately I didn't make a note of the name of the shop.

I'm putting a 458cc kit into the Purple Haze, along with a bunch of other performance stuff :-)

It might of even been a marine machinist that I was reading about....?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Subscribed. Get in touch with Doctor D or tweakin. Both have had locals bore jugs for em. Let us know what you find out.

Are you back from Africa now?

Actually I am in South East Asia, Cambodia.
I'll be back for a few weeks this month and then for a few years in September. Was hoping to get a jump start on the rebuild of my bike.

Had a son while I was here, I hear congrats are in order for you, has the little bundle of joy arrived yet?

Thanks for the tip!

Is this the place ? I had these guy's do mine. They have the correct grit hones and are right over the Ballard Bridge in Magnolia. The owner is Doug and his son is Aaron. I work for the CAT dealer NC Power Systems, and they do all of our cams, cranks, and cylinders for our marine engines. Professional and timely service. You'll have to provide them the cylinder and piston specs. for the fit. Stop in and say hi to them and check out the shop. It's a interesting place. Nice people.

Thanks Thirsty 1,
That does sound like the place that was mentioned. I remember it was close to the Ballard bridge.

If you don't mind me asking....what did it cost to have the cylinders bored?

Thanks for the info!!

Good question.   :) Doug was at my work picking something up and just kinda took them from me. I asked him if he could do anything this small and he said "gimme those, when do you want them back?" So I told him whenever and he called me about noon and said they were done. No charge  ;D this all happened about 8:30 in the morning.  So i went over to there shop in Ballard and picked them up from Aaron.  Aaron said he used the correct grit hones from wisco. 240 grit I think. It was whatever wisco recommended.

You could call them and ask, but it would be better if you just stopped by and said hi. Very relaxed shop.

Hey Thirsty 1, it's an original Pops Yoshimura that I've had stashed away. I plan on having it ceramic coated before installation.

Oh man right on! Ya take it to them and tell'em what you have and that it can't be replaced.  They'll do ya right.
