RIP Doc Neeson
« on: June 03, 2014, 07:26:31 pm »
Another Aussie Rock Legend gone to the other side.
When The Angels started playing, it was time to party.
And party hard.
Thanks for the great memories and the hangovers Doc.
I'd do it all again tomorrow.

If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

Thanks for the pics Mick.
Even though we knew he was very ill and dying, it doesn't make it any less sad.
Do we know if he finished the album he was working on?
Would be one for the collection.

Pete

I'm not 100% sure if Doc finished the album as his health had been deteriorating for a while.
All that I can find is some info on the link below.

Those days back at the Largs Pier hold some very fond memories mate.
They were some of the best times ever.

I'd be worried about me.

Doc did an album with his new band Red Phoenix, it had 16 songs on it. I posted some of this in the pissed off thread but it should be here.  I used to see the Angels regularly at Cronulla workers, Bankstown RSL and The Carringbah Inn in Sydney in the 80's, as well as several out doors concerts of the day, usually accompanied by Rose Tattoo, Kevin Borich or the Radiators, Usually the tatts, always great shows usually seen with copious amounts of alcohol and the odd punch up, another much loved part of my youth has disappeared....
RIP Doc.... :'(

Thanks mate.
Back in the 80's, there use to be a Sunday Session at a pub here in Darwin called Lims.
Everyone would go into this bloody big cage which  affectionately got called "Rage in the Cage"

There were Rock n Roll bands playing at full noise in there.
Everytime one of the bands fired into Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again, the beers and Bundy Rums and joints and tits would be flying around the place.
Just how Doc would've loved it.

Saw the Angels play at the Hells Angels 1st Broadford weekend in 1976 or thereabouts, can't remember anything they played,  it was a very heavy night. All outlaw clubs from Sydney & Melbourne, drugs, booze what a combination it was lethal. Fights all over the place, we stuck together and fought our way out.

The bad old days, glad I left those days behind.

Magic times none the less.
They were bloody wild times without a doubt.
That was a part of our lives mate and thinking back feels good.
The thing is, that we survived it all.
Some didn't,  but we did.

There are so many that kept going with the same regime for years and years and who ultimately paid the price for it.

My left eardrum isn't as good as the right one and that's probably Docs fault along with Led Zep, Chisel and a few others.   ;D

This may surprise you but this Yank heard some of his stuff just recently. Little Steven Van Zandt runs  several channels on Sirius Satellite Radio which means nothing to you since it only serves the US and Canada.

One of the DJ's on his Underground Garage Channel was speaking of Docs passing and played some cuts. He was actually very good.

That's good hearing that Bobby.
Doc made a huge and dedicated contribution to the industry over many, many years and was always well respected.

I know that he and his music will live on for a long time to come.

The only Aussies we hear are the BeeGees, Men at Work, Duran Duran and Olivia Newton John. Keith Urban is popular in Country. We have always been offered very filtered Music here. Some Brit Bands like the Beatles, Stones etc of course.

I have discussed this with friends of mine from overseas. The US has always been sort of self contained in Music, Movies and a lot of media.

That is why 25 million of us pay for Satellite Radio. It is uncensored and they have 125 channels for every taste of music. The DJs are journeyman, know their music and play what they could not on commercial radio back in the day.

One thing I notice is that when you folks are talking amongst yourselves in Aussie slang, I know what you mean, but it sure is fun to read.

RIP Doc I enjoyed your tunes.
