Topic: Widest tire to fit 2.15x18 comstars (CB650)?

Hi guys,

I have a 79 CB650 (Z) with an almost funny rear tire clocking in at 3.50x18, fitted to a 2.15x18 comstar (original I guess).

What is the widest rubber I can put on there, when it comes to rim and clearance & handling?

Edit: I can get a good deal locally on the Avon AM26 Roadrider 130/80-18 TL (66V), hopefully thats something that can work.

I'm pretty sure I have a 3.50x19 on the front and 4.00x18 on the rear.  But I would have to check to be certain.

I have a 4.0 conti go on the rear of mine and am quite happy with it.

Other than handling, will it really hurt anything? I run 110 90 18 and 100 90 19 on my factory 1.85 DIDs as do a plethora of people on here. Its not recommended, but they work just fine and seem to wear pretty well.

Agreed.  I had an 82 cb650, bought a 130 for the rear and had to return it for a 120.

You cannot put that tire on that 2.15 rim safely.
You can put that tire on the rear of the bike though.

Each tire manufacturer has its own requirements for minmum rim width for its tires.

He was talking about a metric size tire 130mm wide. Not inches.
130mm= 5-1/8 inches!!!

The 2.15 rim is the rear rim    I'll have to look into this a bit further. Thanks so far guys. If 4.0 is the widest recommended I'll just wear out the one I've got (3.5) before I do a switcheroo.

I realise that Lucky, I was simply mentioning what I run on my bike which is the same model.  I then posted a link to a chart that outlines what tyres you can run on what rims.  These bikes were designed to run on inch size tyres anyway.

Anyway since when are you interesed in providing either accurate or helpful information
