Lou here from Cold Lake, Alberta. Home of Canada's largest Air Force Base. I'm a retired Aircraft Jet
Engine Technician, presently working at the same job as a "Reservist" (full time) as well as working
on contract doing "Field Maintenance" on Industrial Turbines. (Power Stations)

Presently re-conditionning a 73 CB750K3 (build date 11/72) and hopefully will be riding this summer.
Have put in many new and used parts in this re-build. 90% of them purchased on eBay. Some from
"David Silvers Spares" in the UK. I will post photos as I progress (only the rear whell is on the frame)
and of the finished product.

Cheers,
Lou.

1973 CB750K2 (build date 09/72) S/N 2063462
Currently being restored, still.......!
So much work left to do..................so little time!

After a short hiatus...I'm back in restoration mode!

Tim here - In the heart of Toronto.  I'm on my third CB 'project'  ::)

I started with a 1977 CB750 back in 1996.  Didn't get a license till 2001 if that tells you anything.  Got tired of working on the bike, and didn't really ever fall in love with the style of the bike.  I preferred the older models.  Sold it to a friend and bought a running 1973 CB500K.

As it turned out with the CB500, the front forks were both bent - didn't notice till I rebuilt them.  Replaced those.  Did a bunch of work on it, rode it a bit, didn't run very well.  Then I moved, my daughter was born and the bike sat for a couple years.  Brought it back to life, spent $600 on it trying to get it running and then promptly sold it for $600  ::) - Yeah, I'm a loser.

Before I sold the 500 I stumbled across a 1976 CB550F with 'good bones' for $450.  No rust or dents, original pipes, gauges like-new etc.  Wasn't running at the time - cables disconnected etc.  Spent $900 on new Honda parts (new controls, cables, all sorts of rubber bits, NOS brown vinyl seat off eBay etc.) - Only to find out it wasn't running really well.

So, now it's in the shop for a carb rebuild and tuning.  They found compression issues, and very little vacuum at idle.  So, off the cylinders came and wouldn't you know it, broken rings on #3, damaged piston as a result, and cylinder walls worn to the limits where we really now need a rebore.  Cam chain guides worn/broken... 30,000 miles and probably neglect will do that.

Now I'm torn between putting one new piston and new rings all around in, and living on the edge of the need for a bore.  Or, spending an extra $350 on a bore and all new pistons.

The bill for this round of service will be $1000 - $1350 depending on my decision.  So, now I'm into this bike for $2500  :o  Certainly a lot for the bike, but, I'm keeping it and any bike I bought for $2500 might have similar problems anyhow, if not right off the bat then possibly in the future.  At least I know what I'm riding now!

Sorry - had to vent  ;D

Hey everyone,

I am in Vancouver, working on a 1981 CB 650 Custom which should be on the road tonight (fingers crossed).  I've seen a few Honda CB's on the road in Vancouver now that the sun is out.

Hello,

I picked up a '78 CB750K last year.  I don't have a lot of $'s to spent but after sitting for I guess for about 5 years I bought it off a friend for $200. Another about $1000 later she is road worthy and safe but no show piece.  Suits me just fine and I have a lot of fun with it.  I always liked the looks of these bikes when I when I was younger and I think 750cc's is the ideal size  So now I own one of these beauties!

Happy riding from Oakville, Ontario,  about 20 mins west of Toronto.

Joel in Whitby ON. Bought a 78 cb750 f2 a few months ago. Solid bike and a daily rider but I eventually (hopefully next winter) want to make it into a café style head turner. I love this site and have been reading endlessly for days looking for tricks of the trade and ideas. This is my first post as i have too many questions and don't know where to start.
