Yep, "Mechanic-in-a-can".
Don't know what it is but it sure works. First used on very touchy Kawasaki snowmobile engines with suprising results. Now I use it on everything, 2 stroke and 4 stroke.

Just a thought, does SeaFoam change the octane rating of the gas?

A little more than half a can and you’ll bog out and have to thin the mix with more gas. I usually full the tank minus about 2 or 3 cups, start the bike and add seafoam till it conks out, add the rest of the gas, wait 5 minutes, maybe give the bike a bit of a shake to help mix the fuel and boom, out riding for a hour or two, add the rest of the can at your next fill up and you can skip the rebuild till next season! When you notice the trail of thick white smoke following you just know that that is 30+ years of riding ghosts trying to keep up so just smile and be glad that you on the bike and not behind it.

I've been impressed with Seafoam in the tank.  But what are your experiences, good and bad, with it in the crank case?  As mentioned in this thread, it may dissolve some sludge that is sealing a leak.  Is that a bad thing?  I'm thinking that if you have that much sludge in there that you WANT it gone for better engine cooling.

I'm guessing one would want to add it then monitor the color (colour) of the oil.  If it gets dark quickly that an oil change is in your near future.  Does that make sense?

Yes, OldSchool.......

About the oil; to me that makes sense.  Many years ago I bought a brand new car off the show room floor.  Changed oil like a maniac....... at first like the warranty said, first 500 miles, blah, blah, blah........

Then I changed oil when it started to "color."  Many years later when I sold the car, it still ran at about 75 pounds of oil pressure.

As far as SeaFoam in the gas tank......... I don't think anything beats it.  I swear by it.....

Well, this stuff sounds awesome.  Are there any potential downsides to running it in the gas?  Like will it disolve carb O-rings and gaskets that are getting old in the tooth?

Even over here in Norway we have heard about the famous Seafoam. ;D

And since I had heard so much about it and wondered if it was any good, a friend in USA sent me bottle (Strange enough it even got past the Norwegian customs  :D).
I put some of it in the fuel tank on the 650, and it must have worked, a least inside the fuel tank. Shortly after I put in the Seafoam, the inline fuel filter was clogged up with dirt. And after replacing the clogged filter, the bike did run better than before I put Seafom in the tank. But if the bike ran better because it cleared out the dirt in the tank improving the fuel flow, or if it was because it cleaned the carbs, or both, is hard to tell really but I think the latter is the right answer.

So why would Seafoam be any better than say the prescribed amount of carb/fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank occasionally?

El Huero Loco,

The bottle claims it a good fuel stabalizer, so I would say run Seafoam now to clean up the gunk, then add some to your last tank of the year for to preserve the gas in the tank through the winter.

weeeeell.... it is a different sort of product... practically ALL FI/carb cleaners are composed of petroleum distillates-----i am not convinced that cheaper ones are anything other than kerosene and some red dye... seafoam smells like alcohol to me... the MSDS, however, reveals that the primary ingredients are pale oil (a highly refined........... petroleum distillate, similar to castor oil), naphtha (a solvent--- "white gas" or zippo fluid), and IPA (presumably NOT the beer, despite the smell  ??? )... of course, they use a "propeietary blend", so we will never know what else is in there, if anything...

compare to "techron" (another effective product BTW)... 50% distillates, 35% stoddard solvent (found in WD40 and paint/varnish--- reputed to be a "rubber-eater"), naphtha, benzene (uber-toxic and cancer-causing solvent that increases octane of gasoline and is effective at cutting grease/sludge), and xylene, an isomer of benzene...

Is this miracle product, Seafoam, available at any retailers in Canada? Crappy Tire, NAPA or?
Sounds like THE stuff to have!

I thought we were all talking about "SeaWeb"!  I'm sure he's an excellent mechanic, but he may object to the idea that he could just be poured into anyone's gas tank!

"LIQUID OVERHAUL"

KERO & M.E.K.
This used to be the way of de gumming any thing.
Come to think about it what the hell was in the tank to start with? . It was basically gum cum.
or STAB. Stuck like "S#$%* To A Blanket" The MEK or Methel Ethel Keytone which I believe is still in Nail Polish Remover is the key, but dangerous stuff.
Sea Foam sounds better but I have not heard of it in Australia.
Any Clues where we may be able to buy some in Australia.

FWIW, MEK isnt in any nail polish remover that *i* have ever seen, but i 100% guarantee it will remove nail polish  :D ... that is some damn potent stuff... for example, my buddy's powdercoat shop uses MEK to degrease and clean metal parts before sending through the booth...

MEK is also the "wash" stage of KREEM, which is a molten mess that i do not recommend... was trying to dry a tank out (after the wash stage) by blowing through the petcock bung and accidentally inhaled some... everything was white for at leasttwo seconds--- model glue has nothing on that stuff... maybe that is what my problem is  ::) ...

MEK cleans gunk up well and ruins paint instantly... vapors are intense and hug the floor--- definately dont smoke around it... also, it evaporates from your skin so quickly that it feels like ice, and leaves your skin a chalky white (no matter what color it started)...

A further note I thought should be added........

I haven't heard anyone mention SeaFoam's ability to fight rust.  Around a lot of marinas in different states, SeaFoam is very popular for the boat engines....... fights off rust/corrosion.

I do know that in my 750's gas tank it did remove visible rust and has kept it from coming back.  That alone made it worthwhile for me........ I was very upset with the rust I could see in the gas tank........ :D :D

     ~ ~ ~ jaknight ~ ~ ~

P.S.- - - - - - -> HEY HONDA CBER good buddy---------> Watch out for that MEK crap;  sadly, it's not just evaporating.......... it's going through your skin and into your different body systems.......... Stay away........ in comparison after a while,  Mad Hatter's dance will seem relaxing.......

MEK= DEATH, it is BAD #$%*. nail polish remover has acetone in it. Still nasty #$%*, but not as BAD as MEK.

I was told to put Seafoam in my Buick, straight with a spray bottle into the carburetor throat fast enough to make it choke, like carb cleaner.

My CB carbs are clean beyond clean, but I didn't think agout the gas tank.

Thanks.
