welcome
When a bike is that shiny, i guess it seems fragile, but i assure you it is not.  just look at some of the bikes in the gallery (like mine) and you will see the survivor nture of these bikes (both in looks and mechanics.) my bike was both taken care of and neglected by POs, and it still looks killer (after much elbow grease).  It will never shine like yours, but after 22,000 miles- some rough- it still looks the part of the stocker.  so i guess i am thinking that there is nothing you can do to that bike, including a lay down, that will cost you more to fix than you would spend buying a second 'daily rider' bike.  in fact, running these bikes makes them last longer.  keep it maintained and clean AND ON THE ROAD and you WILL BE preserving your investment.  just dont leave it outside in maryland because i will find it and it will be mine. :P

hey ho, lets go, indeed

Well, i guess the word "daily" isnt really what i meant. See, in the military I have found a few truths: If you dont ride the loudest harley, or the fastest plastic donorcycle, you just arent cool (whatever). I happen to go nuts over a chopped and dished 32' highboy (not the million dollar streetrod either). I would'nt look twice at a blinged-out escalade, or ever drive one. I guess some people think Im "sick in the head" because I happen to crave vehicles older than I am. I think It would be a crime to put such a beautiful machine in harms way of rude cagers opening a door into it, or hitting it, rock chips, road tar, whatever. Rest assured she WILL be driven, and alot I'm sure, but it will not be in the daily grind. Me and her, were gonna go out with the sole purpose of enjoying each others company. no destination, no reason, just ride through the back country. I see her as my time machine back to a year I never saw, a blast from the past if you will. On that note, My "daily" will be more "project". Un-original as it is, I can't afford a rod, much less have anywhere else to put it, so I am gonna do a cafe. Now I know carpy and a few others made the 750 the "it" bike for this, and why not? honda reliable, the first "crotch rocket", its a badass platform. I am gonna do a 550, but I will probably be building it when I'm in Germany, so I have no idea where to start looking. When I get back my 550 stocker will have a nice stablemate. The project will also help me understand the guts of my stocker, that way I wont have to go experimenting on her ya know? anyway, rest assured, she will not go to waste.

When my parents fist got married they got a brand new Volare station wagon (I hated that car). On day my mom scratched it in a parking lot and then called my dad at work in tears. My dad said, "Great, now I don't have to worry about it anymore." Moral is: don't be afraid of messing it up. Break it in real nice and ride it. (wow, how long has it been since someone had to "break in" a new one of those?)

Sweet bike, have fun.

Where in Germany are you going. I`m from the Stuttgart area and go back once or twice every year, I can hook you up with some good people in the bike business over there.

Whoa! That bike is in mythical condition! Good job! Really...24 miles?
I got side panels from CMS Netherlands. They were expensive as hell, but are the original style and fit perfectly. I was a little pissed when I found that JC Whitney had them, but theirs are boltons, not original...If you're in Germany, you can pay for them in Euros and not pay giant shipping...you may even be able to go the Holland to pick them up!
Welcome aboard...

Just remembered a limerick, altered to be appropriate:

There once was a tanuki from Devizes,
Had balls of two different sizes.
One was so small, it was no ball at all.
The other so large it won prizes.

Beautiful bike Ton Up.  I also have a 74 550 K0, same color but no where near as nice as yours.  She's a beauty!  Just make sure you take her out and stretch her legs.

Great bike you've got there... what a find..... ;D

I thought my bike was low mileage when I got it in 1999 with 2k on it. Nowt compared to yours. Mine now has 10.5k on it I love riding it so much. :D

Enjoy!! They're a friendly bunch on here... I've tested them by asking loads of idiotic questions!!
