MotoGP Indy 2014
« on: August 05, 2014, 08:14:15 AM »
Anyone planning on going to the MotoGP race in Indianapolis this year? Wife and I are going, and it'll be our first live race (although I've watched plenty on TV.) Anyone have any tips and tricks, or best places to watch?

Thanks

I'm going to put my bike in the "Why We Ride" Pagoda Show: Fri, Sat, Sun. I'll be on a Gen Admission Ticket, and probably staying in the Pagoda Plaza with my bike most of the time. Don't know if I can see the track from there or not.  IF not, I'll just be walking around in the Gen Admis areas.

I haven't been in the track since I was 11 yo. Lots have changed since then to the seating. But from what I've read, there are no bad seats.

Come down to the Pagoda Plaza and see the bike show.   ;D

Just look for the metal flake purple, orange flames and liquid chrome glistening in the sun.    :D

I suggest you move around some, it takes time, maybe find a place where you can see two or three corners. If you watch from the mound near T10 you can see some fast sweepers. (take lawn chairs for that spot) Definitely spend a little time at the end of the straight to get an idea just how fast these bikes are.

I have gone every year since they started racing at Indy.
It's one of the best tracks for general admission viewing that I've been to
I always watch the race from the grandstands at the end of the front straight.
Walk around Friday and Saturday and decide where you want to see the Sunday
race from. Plan to go downtown at night around the water tower there thousands of
bikes hanging out.

There usually is flat track racing at the fairgrounds Saturday night. That's a fun event if you haven't been.

Wow, next time we'll have to try to find a way to do the entire weekend. But just Sunday seems like there will be a ton of things to do and look at.

We purchased some of the inexpensive reserve tickets so we could get into the paddock, but we'll walk around quite a bit to see everything else that's going on.

Very excited!

YEs, they try to make a festival event out of the main feature. The "motoGP week" actually started last weekend with a "minimoto" race in BroadRipple (artsy fartsy district). Don't remember how the riders were chosen, but they raced a street course on 50cc roadracers.

Tonight is a Moon Dog Tavern "Pagoda Show Night". Then the various races, practice, flat track, etc.
