How hard is it to find a 350 four?
« on: August 27, 2014, 06:41:24 AM »
Even though it's hot out I'm thinking of my next winter project. My wife's 350 twin is much rougher running than my 750 so I'm thinking of upgrading her to 4 cylinders. She doesn't know this yet. Also a smaller engine might make for easier diving deeper into a rebuild. Problem is craigslist near me pulls up absolutely nothing. I know they were only made for 3 years I guess there weren't that many around.

Any good places to look?

They're rarer than CB750s because there was only a short production run, but they're out there. This guy says he has a 350Four -- probably worth a call. He's also got what looks to be a really nice 400F, which I feel is a superior bike.

Too bad -- there was a guy in West Orange a month or so ago who was clearing out an old garage and selling dirty but complete 350-Four for virtually nothing. But I don't see his listing any more.

And what about this? Open your eyes, man!

Searchtempest.com is a good resource. Wider search than craigslist. I found mine mislabeled as a 350t and got a good deal.

I would say moderately hard. The 350 four was never as popular as any of the other SOHC4's. But I still see several a year for sale around Chicago. They generally don't seem to command the prices of the other bikes so you should be able to find a decent one for a reasonable price, very likely no more than a 350 twin.

400 four would be a better choice.  Better availability of models and parts, plus you would not have the notorious problem of cracked steering heads to deal with...Larry

Having owned both the 350 and 400 4. I'd definitely go the 400 route. but....the riding position might not be as nice for the SO as the 350. If it's just jaunting around on short rides then it doesn't matter much I guess.

The one in Fort Wayne was half the price and even nicer, crazy how much the markets differ.

I'd love to find a cheap one that can be a project. Also hard to buy a bike that's 1500 miles away.

Yes -- that's why I posted one that is under 100 miles away from you. 10 hours left and the bid is at $700 and it's the beginning of a holiday weekend. This one will go for less than $1000 and it's a weathered runner.

That is about as good as it gets.  If you expand your search radius to say 6 to 8 hr drive that would open up some options for you.  Here is a 400f in Main for $400 bucks.

They are tough to get at this price.  If you can find a runner within 100 miles for $1k that is about as good as it gets.  I'd rather go complete as the bits and pieces add up quick.

Looking for one myself in the Iowa area — they are definitely rarer than the bigger bikes, but I've seen one or two pop up (and go) in the past couple of weeks.
