550K1 cases won't quite split
« on: August 08, 2014, 10:47:56 AM »
Hi guys, hope everyone's summer is going well.  I'm splitting the cases on my CB550K1.  All the bolts are out and just got the rotor off with the Honda tool.  I can pull the cases apart about 3/4 of a centimeter but there is something catching and I don't want to force anything obviously.  It seems like it's something to do with the crankshaft.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks

If all the bolts are out it should just pull apart. You get the secret 6mm bolt under the sump? Theres also a sneaky 8mm at the front that might be hidden by dirt....don't ask me how I know.

I know what you mean...

The bolts are out and the cases come apart but only a third of an inch. Something stops them coming apart at that point and I don't want to force them.

Have you removed the oiul strainer with its extra rubber pipe?

Thanks Bryan, it ended up being the left side seal on the crankshaft.  It was glued to the upper case.  Just had to pry it loose.   :-[
