have come under amazing pressures the last 20 years to make this crap work. Today (2014) I would estimate that nearly 20% of it does not even function as advertised, which brings on things like the massive GM car recalls

This all started the same time as "Trickle down economics"  We can't go back in time but I sure hope it can be fixed, or someone please admit it needs fixing.

alanshark,  how is the cutting out problem going??   At least these old bikes don't have software to worry about.

I love happy endings :)

Interesting though. We were bit behind on the other side of the fence - computer embargos and the overall lack of development in electronics.

I remember in internship seeing needle production center being build and debugged - it was all mechanical and hard (as steel cams and levers) programmed.  Fascinating mechanics, I guess all is electronic nowadays.

To be sure and direct now, I (we) have been adding more and more cam-operated 'stuff' in machines to avoid the problems embedded in the "modern" controllers when time is of the essence in movements. I just finished the 3D models of a brand-new line of small-bore (.50AE and smaller) caliber reloading machines that will do all calibers. When this reaches hardware, we will have a "home style" reloading machine that runs at 25 rounds/minute at 1/5 the cost of the "commercial" ones out there now. It has been a study in Honda, SONY, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki-like machinery that brought me here: started it 3 years ago, now almost done. I can't wait to send the first ones downrange from this prototype!

I was curious how is the reloading press coming along, even though cranking rounds out fast - from press or from a gun - is the last thing I really care for.

I am into SA revolvers, bullet casting and I hunt with a single shot rifle :)

Emgo sells a switch base but steer clear, they're junk. Honda used to offer the base separately but I'm not sure it's still available. If you do need to replace the switch keep in mind your new key won't work in the other locks.
A little behind, but a bit of info about the center mount switch bases.
The problem is not so much the switch base as it is the plastic cover used to secure the base to the cylinder. These covers get brittle with age, and the retaining clips break allowing the base to shift out of position. Those plastic covers are NLA, and getting more expensive if you can find one.

The quick, and dirty fix that I had to use was making a simple stirrup from a soda can to hold the base in position, and a hose clamp to hold it in place on the cylinder.

That works! Also, so does the "plumber's strap" metal strip with the pre-punched holes in it. After shaping it, I spray it matte black and it vanishes under the headlight after installing it.
