Very first pic has the vin plate clearly visible--1977.  Looks like build date is 8/76?  Oil tank is 77-78 also, looks like that's what he used as a "base."

better eyes than mine...looks like 76 when I look again.

there is the year 1977, and then there is the build date which would correspond to a 77 even though it was built in 76.  Around august they start making next year's model.
