Cleaning crusty valves
« on: March 06, 2015, 10:52:15 AM »
Hi all,

I am cleaning my valves and the exhaust valves are particularly crusty with some sort of calcium, ethanol, carbon build up. I have had them soaking for a few weeks now and it has helped but there is still lots on there. See pics

I have read some guys saying to hit them with a wire wheel or brush but also read it could damage them.

What suggestions do you experts have for restoring these valves?

Thanks in advance :)

I chuck them into a hand drill or my drill press and clean off the carbon with sandpaper.  Avoid the sealing surfaces at all cost.

i use the brush vheel..they are strong..nothing can crash them..or glass blast them..and grint them in the seat after..no problems...the steam must not be mackined..only the head of the valve..
i kan not speak english/but trying!!
