My experiences with "rattle can"- anything is it isn't fuel proof. The stuff is just too "cheap" to hold up. Like was suggested, try it on something you don't care about, let it dry for a week or so to fully cure, and splash it with fuel. My bet would be you'll be disappointed.
I feel that the only finish that would be suitable would be a professional grade finish that uses a hardener. I don't do painting so you'll need to get professional opinions, but I have used plenty of rattle can stuff.
