CB400f rebuild
« on: January 12, 2015, 09:27:46 AM »
Hi,this is my first post on here so go easy on me.
I've started building my 400/4 up,most of the bits have been chromed, zink plated or sprayed.
I try to do as much work as I can myself,eg paint, zink and all the rebuild.
Not really done photos of the before on parts but I will put on what I've got.
The frame, swingarm, stands and engine mounts are powder coated gloss black done by redditch powder coaters.
will post some pics as soon as I work out how.
Fuel tank primed and waiting for paint.

I like the color.  Is that a shadow on the tank or is that an uneven body line underneath the paint showing through?

Hi Ron,the colour was matched by my local paint supplier and should be as close as possible to origional,I think it's a reflection of the table its on,there's nothing showing through the paint, but I've done it myself and I'm not a professional painter.

Yes the origional ring gap was big enough to get a pound coin between.

Thanks Larry,I may go over the switches with a semi gloss clear coat.
Most of this work has been done over last year,at the moment it's freezin but I've got a heater in the shed and one more week off work so more work can be done.

Looks great.
I think the switch housings were black anodized, no?  I'm a total noob so don't rely on that.  Satin will look right.  I'm think I'm going to polish the ones on my '72 CB500 four.

Hi jvandyke, now you've said that I think your right,I've got spare switches that are faded and it doesn't look like paint.

Looking good!
Make sure you do a good job of grounding the battery box too. I usually run a wire between frame and battery box just to be sure it has a good ground.
If it isn't grounded well you will have battery charging issues as some of the electrics are bolted to it and use it as their ground.
