Piston rings for old pistons
« on: January 31, 2015, 01:50:47 PM »
Maybe wrong forum, but piston rings are sometimes discussed here buy people searching for old rings not found.
Here a seller with plenty of different ring dimensions

I have found piston rings I think will match my old Henry Abe 67mm kit. One oil ring is missing.
There are plenty of dimensions.
These might be Ok when they match the height I measured with calliper.
Oil rings (old 1 piece model)  67x2.8mm (my caliper show 2.8-2.85 when I measure my old rings)

Chrome plated (top ring) 67 x 1.5mm

Scraper ring (2:nd ring) 67 x1.5mm

Thanks!
That can be useful when I have not yet verfified the groove depths with rings.
I measured my piston 3,2mm in all 3 grooves

I could not find any rings at Total Seals homepage using the part no.
My pistons are the old Henry Abe, type A with 1 piece oil ring. Same rings as the newer Type B (Slipper) with less skirt?

Contact the good folks at Hastings Piston Rings and they will set you up with a full new set.   ;)
Just give Dawn the correct dimensions of your old rings.

Email them with the part numbers. They may have to make them if not on the shelf as they did for me. No additional charge and it only took a few days. Great service. I sent Ed one of my pistons for sizing and mine are identical to yours if your's are the 'slipper' type with less skirt. He set me up with 3 piece oil rings which I preferred so that oil ring number will be 3 piece.

I have also used Hastings as mentioned when I sent my 812 Yoshimura piston in for sizing. They ID'ed them as the old 350 twin rings and said I could still order them from Honda. Again good service.

At least you won't have to ship a piston this way.

Thanks guys for your help.
I'll test the rings here for 1 piston that do not cost much.  If they will not fit I know where and how to find correct. It is only one oil ring I need to start with. All rings are used but not much. Hone the bores in the 67mm cylinder I have and install in another engine not found yet.

Got answer today obout the ring depths.
 - 67 x 1,5 x 3,0 Chrome-plated ring
- 67 x 1,5 x 2,6 Scraper ring
- 67 x 2,8 x 2,6 Oil control ring

I'll order and report how they fit.

Don't forget J & E pistons in California in your searches. They also have fantastic customer service and
will ship you the one missing ring if that is all that you desire.
