A friend helped me put the XS650 and FZR numbers into the calculator. I do NOT know the FZR tree rake, if any.
That said, we came up with:
XS650 trail: 4.47" or 112.91mm
FZR600 trail: 3.92" or 99.58mm
? Scott, the trees don't have any rake, only offset, thats easy to measure, Draw a straight line between the top centre of both forks while they are in the clamps, find the center of the steering stem and measure back to the line between the for top centers, that is your offset, without that measurement you can't get any figure worth looking at, its a critical measurement... Forget tree rake completely, NO Japanese production bike has raked trees... A quick google search revealed,
From the Clymer Manual XS650 and tx650
Trail 3.9in (101mm)
Caster 63degrees
From page161 1975- Early 1978
Trail 3.9in (101mm)
Caster 63degrees
From page 162 1978(Late) XS650E,SE
Caster 27 degrees
Trail 4.53in (115mm)
So it looks like for a 1975 XS650 the trail numbers are 101mm, or virtually 4 inches ... Make it easier since we are talking Japanese bikes and do all your measurements in MM instead of inches, all Japanese triple trees are offset in MM..
FZR600
Rake 25°
Trail 97 mm / 3.8 in
If you want to keep the Yammy close to stock you don't need the FZR numbers, you need to find, assuming you are using the original front wheel, triple clamps with the same offset as the yamaha, to fit the FZR forks or what ever forks you are using, Jimmy has already said this...
Slow down and take your time, its worth getting right... Make sure that all your measurements are exact when using the calculator, A 1mm error will change everything, apparently the motogp riders can feel a 1 mm difference in triple tree offset, so even though we may not, it does make a difference...
