LED signal question
« on: March 14, 2015, 08:06:30 AM »
I know this topic has come up before, but I cannot find what I'm looking for with this search function. I added led flashers to my '72 CB750. Got the correct EP35 electronic flasher, signals work great. Problem is my dash light doesn't flash. I had this problem with my other bike and was able to search and find a solution, by adding a resistor diode inline. Worked great. Well my last bike is gone, so I cannot look at what I did before. Anybody have a diagram of how that resistor should be wired in headlight bucket to make idiot light flash?

I haven't tried this so I'm not sure if this'll work but possibly install an LED bulb in place of your signal indicator bulb  ??? ?
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts'
I love the small ones too !

If nothing else I will give that a try. I'm pretty sure that I need to wire a resistor from left and right signal into one wire into bulb and the other wire from bulb now goes to ground. Going to give that a try first.

Not an electrical engineer, but I'm pretty sure a diode and a resistor are two completely different things. I've never heard of anything called a "resistor diode". One resists or "throttles" current and the other blocks current completely in one direction. Sure it's wired correctly and the bulb is good? I'm only familiar with the symptom of all bulbs flashing together which requires a diode to prevent leakage going to the opposite side. Not sure how by adding a resistor would help.

Everything is wired correct. I did it on my last bike. Package from radio shack says IN4001, so whatever it is may not be a resistor diode, but it made the dash light flash along with signals on my other bike.

Ok, yeah that's a diode. Just a plain old diode, unless I'm mistaken. Maybe that'll help refine your searching. I just don't know enough to help out, sorry. Hopefully someone more knowledgable will chime in.

I think you need to rewire the dash indicator lamp so one wire goes to ground, with a diode (1N4001 is good) wired from each side's signal power wire to the other dash lamp wire (2 diodes needed). Have the arrows on the diodes pointing towards the dash lamp.

Perfect, that's what I was hoping/thinking. Thanks!

Wired as described above. Works perfect. Signals flash as they should, so does dash indicator. Made this using stock type connectors, heat shrink tubing over diodes/wire.

For anybody else that has this issue in the future FYI, Dime City apparently sells what I just made for cheap!
