What's this poor bastard look like?
« on: March 27, 2015, 07:00:25 PM »
Found this sohc for pennies on the dollar local listed as a different bike!  Looks like a 77-78 F model with a k tank but the rear fender have me scratching my head. fender looks k of course but not with comstars. The flat shifter also says f so maybe an f engine with....bah I give ! The k tank and that seat mate up too also throwing me for a loop. Someone smarter please speak now or forever hold your peace. Said too have a vance and hines drag exhaust...Picking up tomorrow if compression numbers check out.

Front brake caliper isn't late F. Also, late engines were black. You'll have to check both the frame numbers and the engine numbers to know for sure. ;)

Not an expert but I would guess its a 78 K that someone put the comstars on. Those are the later model reverse comstars not what would have come on a 77-78F

Yeah I see that now. K frame... didn't know you could run comstar rears on a k . Thought they were all single disk.
Really would love to see the other side. . 77-78 k would have keyhole carbs  but that's an earlier k tank and the seat mates up. Somebody could have slapped those carbs on that engine. Guy wants 350 for it said great hcompression . Pretty firm.

I think the rear peg mounts may be 76 or earlier frame type
I bet the front brake pads are only partly contacting the rotors, ie part of the pads are grabbing air..

Wheels look like early 80's cb750 Custom. Probably used on other models also.

They're all not destined for correct restoration, a hot rod 750 can be a blast to own. Put on whatever parts you want.  Or not.

Yep. I'm with the others. The best thing about a mutt bike is that you have no guilt about chopping it, bobbing it, cafe'n it, etc. You're not ruining an original bike. If the price is right, that could be a fun project bike.

I remember a story from Canada many years ago, about a guy that had a tubbed 1969 Camaro SS. So many people were upset that they guy would do that to such a collectible car. But the guy bought the car after it was totaled. It was no longer going to be original anyway. So he said, "what the hell", and had some fun with the car.

I figured the motor carbs exhaust and tank was worth that.
Had a vance and hinds sidewinder 4-1
Compression felt good to my boot. Extra set of finned covers an extra valve cover, a bikini fairing, extra set of side covers and few other odds and ends. Not sure if those PD carbs are gonna work with that engine but maybe it is a k - engine with just an earlier oil tank...the wheels are a mystery. Everything looks to line up great frank-. Maybe they swapped forks and all . Try and post some more pix . Especially frame and engine numbers to try and decode the year of each. The engine is a coat of many colors. Chrome at first then blue and something Else. Looks like a prime candidate for some wrinkle black :-)

I have the side covers too Just took em off for the drive.
Gonna hook some cables up and squirting some carb cleaner in there in a bit and see what happens. Dude said carbs had been cleaned and stored inside .

No mystery on the wheels.  Reverse comstars someone made work.  On many hondas from the 80's.   stock on many sohc4 650s.
