'74 CB750 Restoration

This bike started out as a "clean and carbs and replace the tires" kind of project, and turned into a full blown restoration.  Back in February my friend picked this up for me while I was out of town and a few weeks later I started work on it.  The slides were frozen and the bowls filthy, warranting a carb rebuild.  The bike needed a decent amount of cosmetic attention.  After getting it running I noticed there seemed to be a problem with second gear.  After determining there was nothing wrong with the linkage, the bike was disassembled, and so it began...

Well, now I'm just sitting around waiting on powdercoated parts to come back, so I'm gonna help a forum member with his bike tomorrow.  Seems like half of the process of a restoration is waiting for stuff to arrive.

Alright gents, going home tomorrow to put in some more hours on the project.  Think I'll paint the motor and rear hub, then lace the wheel and mount the new Battlax tire.  Pics to come.

Powdercoater took MUCH longer than expected.  Finally get to do some re-assembly:































Once the frame was protected with tape, rags, and an old inner tube, slipping it into place on the engine took less than a minute.  Much easier this way.  Removing the wheel bearing retainers, even after drilling the stakes, was a major pain.

Looks really beautiful. I'd suggest removing the powder coating from the upper bridge handlebar saddles to insure your bars carry very high continuity to ground.

Good idea.  The getting a good ground everywhere is going to be a paint with the powdercoat...

Don't have it painted up yet, but got to ride it yesterday for the first time since restoring it.

You gladden the heart of this old Honda mechanic; being commercially orientated I never had the time to reconstruct customer bikes with such TLC.
