605cc kits: Are they still available?
« on: June 19, 2015, 05:30:58 PM »
Did a forum search and only saw 3+ year old threads on this topic.
I guess that they are really 592cc or so? This would be for a 1974 CB550 project. Is there a better or preferred kit than others? Is there a shop that regularly sells kits? Is flea bay the only source?

Is it just a matter of getting new pistons and rings somewhere, boring out the cylinders, getting a new gaskit set, and reusing everything else that's still serviceable?

The CruzinImage kit from Ebay (usually runs about $120) is almost always available if that's the one you're referring to. Other than that there is always Dynoman Performance kits and CycleX kits just to name a couple. Keep searching around, you'll find them easily.

Yeah Cruinimage is what I have been running.  It's good stuff

I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

The cruzinimage 605 kit is a good inexpensive way to increase torque and some horsepower.  The kit cost approximately $120.  It does not increase compression from stock.

Wiseco makes a 553cc (59mm 0.50 over) kit that Cycle X sells for about $550.  It bumps up compression to 10:1

Dynoman makes a range of kits 572cc and 592cc with 10:1 up to 11.5:1 compression.

A CB650 cam will also increase performance as will a porting job on the head.  A combo of the three, especially with increased compression will yield the best results.

I am also a fan of APE heavy duty cylinder studs.  You can buy them direct from APE Racing, Cycle X, Dynoman and others.
