question concerning oil hoses location
« on: June 26, 2015, 06:21:45 AM »
Hey all, quick question I could use some help on.  Finally putting my 1975 750K back together after many years and for the life of me I can not remember where all of the oil line hoses connect. I search but maybe I'm not doing it right.  So my question is, there are two line coming out of the oil tank one up by the filler neck and one coming off the back of the tank about midway down, where do they go?  I think the one midway down the back hooks up to the outlet on the lower back of the engine but am not really sure.  Also if this is not correct, what is connected to this outlet and also the outlet coming off the the back of the valve cover? Pictures showing the routing of these lines would be helpful also, anyway thanks for any help its not really that big of deal but its something I would like to get right.

Thanks for the help

Valve cover goes to the atmosphere, long hose routed down towards swing arm.

The hose from the mid backside of tank does go to the transmissiion. And it is kinda a big deal if it weren't that way, oil everywhere. The larger diameter hoses from the top of the tank and the valve cover go as stated, to the atmosphere, near the swingarm pivot.

Those breather lines go as you describe. Be sure the mid-breather that connects to the back of the tranny is firmly in place..........its been known to slip off or crack on rebuilt-projects.......and then its spews oil onto the rear tire :o

The top tubes end to air and are placed between the frame and swingarm........next to the carb tubes. The top motor breather follows the motor contour between 2-3 and lays over the tranny. Later models have a small plug with an air-hole at the end of those breathers.........as they age and collect oil-film and road-dirt on both sides of the plug they are sometimes noted to hold water in the tube. That is the moisture (condensation) that forms inside the motor (more in certain climates and storage conditions) and is 'steamed'-off when the motor is started and warms up. Its a good idea to occasionally check the ends of the breathers to be sure they are still clean and clear.
