Delta, with all due respect, I dont think you know what you are talking about.  I don't blame you, I know what kind of information actually crosses the ocean and how messed up is the history of USA in European text books.

It's history and the people that are making it a racial/political issue are pushing an agenda.
Right so. Changing your avatar into that flag in these days shows you have an objection to a socially-drivenagenda. Can't argue with that.
Clarified that for you.

So who is telling who how to think here. Perhaps he is showing rightful pride?! Serdi vs Neway. OK this is getting confusing.... Who is to tell him he hates races or guides or seats? Has he stated he hates races? Freedom of speech and thought. Just #$%*ing be nice to PEOPLE. Simple concept that includes machinists which come in various colors too. There are 2 distinct issues that are trying to be made - racial hatred that goes BOTH ways but only one of which is in the news and pride in the good side of the Southern heritage.

Oh wait a minute lets get back to the valve hatred........

Wonder how long it'll take to get this valve topic deleted or locked.  ;)

Sorry couldn't resist.

70CB750, you thought it the right occasion to have that flag in your avatar? I personally think it shows bad taste and I remind you it's a rule in this forum to refrain from politics.
Please don't start down that path with him and don't make it political. Be glad you don't have a Nazi flag hanging over there.
The big international company we have in my town changed their logotype due to a maniac paint artist from Austria that found his carrieer in Germany. The company called ASEA merged with Brown Boveri late 80's to ABB. Very, very old symbol, since 70 years back totally banned.

But what is it you're trying to say with that flag in this tech forum ? Is it you wanna communicate to Americans here, you're really one of them (and against others)?

I have a set of neways that I did not try, probably. Need the pilots. So I have. Never used them.
But from my machine experience, I am guessing a bit of pressure,  a smoothly executed turn, and lifting off as you stop,  in one swift motion.. A set up that would beg to chatter if done the wrong way... Any comments on that?
BTW I know a guy that was a tuner for an XR750 dirt tracker, and am pretty sure I heard about him touching up the seats with a neways while on the road racing..

Sure....I have some good info. Why this turned into some off center topic is disingenuous. If I inferred what some people imply everyday on the job I don't know what I'd do. ???
My comment about the CB750 intake seats being soft as sh!t is relevant. So too with the Ti valves.

It all depends on how hard the seat is IMO. Those Neways were NG on the CB's . Now....I know guys that used the hand Serdi's (yes.....the made them)....but they didn't work well on the CB's. I'd guess those Harley dudes were using new valves too. I believe Frank's story for sure.

Back in the day, engines were taken apart quite often. If you had a car with 80K that had never had the head off people though you were bragging or bull#$%*ting.

Most of the engine work was done by local shops, or you did it yourself. A quick lapping with some grinding compound was common in these shops. People did not have a lot of money to fix their cars so these quick fixes were the norm.

Oil changes were @ 1,000 miles and you probably had to add some. Engine blowby was very common and you would see cars blowing blue smoke out of a tube that They put a PVC valve into the valve cover and fed it back into the manifold to reburn it in the cylinders. That caused discussions since you had to replace that valve every so many oil changes.

My point is many of these legacy procedures were passed down from several generations. You have equipment today these people never dreamed of.

Back in the "stone age", most considered a properly ground seat and valve to be the best, and lapping was the work of amateurs and shade-tree mechanics.  ;) I've heard that the H-D flat-trackers used brass or bronze valve seats, which, while sealing very well, required constant maintenance as the valve would pound itself into the seat reducing tappet clearances in only a few miles.

+ 1 - Neways will chatter like #$%* if you go at it like crazy, then your seat will be all over the place like a mad woman's #$%*.
Take your time, think about what you're doing and you end up with good results. Ive done plenty of japanese and Evo heads this way, its just time consuming is all if its a multi-valver.....cant beat the serdi on time taken to complete the job. You just need to be getting through some head rebuilds to make those machines pay for themselves...I dont live in that world unfortunately at the moment.

I used Neways on my engine, but since that I actually bought a knee mill - gift to myself for turning 50  ;).

Now I wonder if regular mill could be used to cut valve seat or if I could use the mill to power Neway cutter.

And I believe that Serdi is superior, but I just don't outsource, I am a cheap guy.

Please change your avatar back. I'd speculate that in addition to myself, the other previous posters would find that one offensive. The whole issue is not about a flag which we have tried to get across. By the way we wouldn't do those other things either.

Ah yes, lapping valves. I grew up in South Africa - the land that put racial segregation into law - and in 1974 ran a Honda C110 50cc bike.  It was a '64 model which I inherited from an older brother. It always ran much better after I had a go at the valves with a bit of valve grinding compound. Of course, it was only a ten minute job to pull the head, so no big investment in time. That Southern flag that 70CB750 is so keen to sport reminds me of this:

71 or thereabouts 750 K1 - this one should have been put down
