Need help - speedbleeder wrong size -have pics!
« on: October 23, 2006, 07:50:04 PM »
Jumping on the speedbleeder bandwagon I went and bought one for my CB750K2 (which badly needs a front brake bleed before I can ride it) following the FAQ pointers on which one for which year. Of course with any rebuild bike using spare parts I dont think my front brake caliper is off a K2 as it seems I have bought the wrong speedbleeder - SB10125 (which I thought was for the K2) - however if you look at the pics below you will see the bleed nipple that came out of the caliper (and works fine) has smaller threads - the speedbleeder does NOT fit in the caliper - does anyone know which year this might be from and which speedbleeder I should get instead? (I will also try emailing this pic to the company but thought id try here first).

thank you,
Andy

I did the same thing.  I looked up the speedbleeder size on their chart and ordered an SB8125L which didn't fit my 400F.  I believe their chart reflect the sizes for modern bikes.  I took my existing bleeder out and checked the size using my tap and die set.  I need to order an SB7100.  The first number (7) is the size of the body in mm and the 100 is the pitch size.
I gave the speedbleeder to my neighbor who has a 1998 Honda with an 8 mm bleeder.

Mark, I think you may be confusing our FAQ with the FAQ on the Speedbleeder site.  We have our own Speedbleeder Reference in our FAQ.  The size listed there for the 400F is SB7100 or SB7100SS for stainless steel.

We made the list because Honda used several bleeder sizes in its early disc brake bikes, and the Speedbleeder company is not familiar, as you may have guessed, with early Hondas.  You aren't the first that has to reorder a Speedbleeder. :(  Our reference is based on parts numbers from Honda parts lists.

Oh, so they don't have these in Japan, huh?! (I'm still jealous).
Is the thread pitch wrong as well as the diameter? If the diameter is too large you will probably need an 8mm (8___) and if the thread pitch is too coarse you will probably need a _100) ie 8100 OR how about a smaller diameter than what you have (8___) with the same thread pitch (_125) ie 8125. What you have is a 10mm (10___) with a 125 thread pitch (__125) making this a 10125.

Jealous Jerry

Luck be a lady!  I was coming here to toss out a question about the actual size of the bleeder on my 750, but I see it's already there!  RxmanGriff saves me a bonehead question!  Anyway, drilled out my old bleeder last night after many attempts at heating, using wax, penetrating oil, etc.  Now I'm off to find the post about the repair kit for these things.....
